Family Law Lawyer Recommendation Please Sutton (Surrey) Area - Needs to take Legal Aid

Please could somebody recommend a lawyer who specialises in family law. My friend is divorcing her husband (Decree Nisi pronounced, waiting to apply for Decree Absolute) and is attending mediation with her soon to be ex. Her ex wants to keep the house without giving her a settlement, seems to think he can do this from his pension later. She needs advice on the following:

1. Wishes to have her name taken off the mortgage, as does not want any association with the mortgage if her soon to be ex gets in arrears etc.
2. Ideally her husband would sell the house to give her a settlement, he is refusing to do this, she needs to know if there is any other means of obtaining a settlement without waiting for his pension (20 years away). Advice and recommendations gratefully received.

tbh it's not really a matter of picking and choosing; very few firms in Surrey are still doing public funding (legal aid), so she will have to take what she can get. They're likely to be newly qualified, so good in that it's all still fresh, but not so good in that they won't have a huge amount of experience.

Most public funding firms have extremely long waiting lists, btw.

I'd suggest that she looks at the Resolution website www.resolution.org.uk to find some local firms, and then pick out any which do public funding. All decent family lawyers belong to Resolution.

and check that she is eligible for legal aid....

I used one in Croydon and I'm fairly sure they take Legal Aid.

Agree with babybarrister. I don't know her personally but have seen her name come up several times over recent years as a highly recommened family lawyer
