Adding spouse to house title do I need a solicitor and how much is it going to cost?

I brought my house before I married DH its in my name. We want to borrow against it but as DH works and I don't the mortgage would be in his name and the mortgage company have, obviously, said he needs to be on the title.

Can I just fill in a form declare us as beneficial joint tenants or do I need to pay a solicitor to fill a form in for me?

Any pointers gratefully received.

You'll need a solicitor for the mortgage. To do a transfer in to joint names at the same time shouldn't add too much to the over all cost.

I paid £345 for change of names on title deeds last month. It was combined in with new mortgage bank paid their bit and I paid mine for change of title.

I just phoned land registry and the value of the transfer 50% is between £100k and £200k so the fee is £60. I need to fill in forms TR1 with me as the transferor then me and DH as the transferees. AP1, which is just the coverall application to say I want to do something and declare the fees than we both need to fill in a proof of ID form which requires a conveyancer to countersign (£25 each approximately I'm told).

Doesn't seam too bad.

You will not get a mortgage if you are doing the conveyancing yourselves!
