I posted last week about my solicitor having not completed a consent order in over a year and you advised me to write a firm letter to him.

I did this. I stated that I would go to the solicitor's regulatory authority if I had not received an appropriate response within a week.

Today is day seven and I haven't heard a thing. What is my next step? How do I contact the authority? Solicitor is well renowned in my area and is now sitting on the judges circuit, which has been his reason for not completing my work.

Is the Solicitor the Senior Partner of the firm? If not, I'd suggest you send a copy of your letter to the Senior Partner.

Joint senior partner, as in his name is in the title of the firm. I think the other partner may be slightly senior though. Thank you for the link...will look now.

tbh if I were you (and assuming that you don't owe them any money), you should probably sack them now and get another solicitor. You'll need to sign an authority for the release of your file to the new solicitor.

This will cost a bit extra as they'll have to catch up to where you are, but if you already have the agreement in principle and it's just the mechanics of getting the consent order and Statement of Info signed and bunged off to court you're 99% there already.

Mumblechum, I did it. I fired them. He was not happy.

I have paid another firm a fixed fee and also paid for ExH's consultation fee. Papers will be written in 2 working days and then ExH will be talked through them by another solicitor.

New solicitors reissuing the paperwork.

Only to find out via STBXH that the missing, signed consent form has been finally sent to my old solicitor. The one I fired.

Might as well have just stuffed £250 in nearest drain. On the plus side, I have Empowered myself by complaining to the legal ombudsman and emailing my first,lengthy, formal complaint letter to old solicitor.

So completely tired of this 2.5 year process...
