Sold a car, buyer didn't sign docs - what to do/scam?

I've just sold a car. The buyer turned up this morning, unarranged , while I was out and paid DH and took the car away. He didn't sign the handing-over-the-car document (can't remember exact name, sorry, it's the red thing, registration document maybe) that he needs to sign to have legal ownership of the car. He lives about an hour's drive away.

Wondering what to do for the best - my concern is if I post it to him then he won't send it on and I'll continue to be liable for speeding tickets etc (which he suggested he got quite often!). Though presumably it would be nice for him actually to own the car? I don't actually trust him at all so just worried I'm being scammed in some way!

I think you mean the V5 or logbook as it is commonly known,whilst buyer should have filled in his name and adress and signed it,it is the sellers responsobility to send it to DVLA,if you have his name and adress then fill it in and send it off unsigned.

If you dont know the details of the buyer then send the V5 and a covering letter explaining that buyer didnt give you any details and wouldnt sign the V5, that you sold the car on X date and are no longer the legal owner.

DP sold a motorbike and the new owner took the V5 and promised to send documents off, about 2 months later we had a tax reminder from the DVLa, I did as above and they wrote back to say we were no longer the legal owners.
