Db arrested for cannabis possession in paris - need to get information

Have just heard from distressed mother that my brother has been arrested for
possession of cannabis in Paris. It seems a friend of his informed her but he says he has no other information eg where he was detained, whether he's been released etc. We have not been able to get in touch with Db for about 3 weeks.

Db is a British citizen and has been living in Paris for about a year. We are not very close but I would like to find out what's happening to him.

Am thinking that perhaps the best way is to contact the British embassy in Paris - does this sound like the sensible thing to do since I have no real information.

There are MNers living in Paris who may have further advice. I'd keep bumping your thread if I were you.

Not much more that I can think of at this point. Dm is very upset and is concerned that he has not been able to get in touch.

Yes, do contact the British Embassy.

I had to do a similar thing once with a friend -different country - and although they were not able to tell me much (as it was only a friend) they were able to say that they were aware of the situation, and that my friend was okay, and in contact with them - as a sibling you may get more information.

Ring the Foreign Office emergency helpline. They should be able to give you some guidance.

Viper - just contacted their emergency helpline and they say that nothing has been recorded with the foreign office (which would have the info fed to them from the British embassy).

They were very helpful - I gave brother's name and I was guessing date of birth as I could remember day and month but not the year - they provided me with the year. However they say they have nothing on him.

Tbh unless he had loads of weed on him, I don't see how he'll be charged. AFAIK having a bit of for your own use is not a huge deal. What I'm trying to say is that I doubt he's sitting in a cell now.

I wonder if you called Prefecture would they give you any info? If his friend knows where it happened, then maybe try the prefecture or station for that arrondissement?

Winny, that's what I thought too. However, no one has been in touch with him for weeks. He has not contacted his son to wish him happy birthday which is a big deal for db.

I don't have an address for him - don't think any of us do as we all communicated by phone. Will check with his 'friend' - found him to not be very forthcoming with information though.

The consulate woud have been contacted if he had been banged ip or charged. If they have nothing on him, then thats not happened X

Is him smoking it a regular thing? If not maybe hes embarrassed at being arrested and is too shamed to get in contact.

Or maybe now is the time to file a missing person report.

AKE - he wouldn't be embarrassed about being arrested unless it was very serious and he wouldn't want to distress dm, so now I do feel a bit worried.

Possession of how much cannabis?

I find it hard to believe that he would actually be arrested for a small amount, for personal use.

This is the problem - we have no information about quantity. But I presume that since narcotics offences are treated very seriously in France that by now details of his arrest/charge would have been fed to the British authorities. That does not seem to have happened yet.

None at all. We have been in touch again with the Foreign office and nothing has come to their attention.

Have also begun interpol enquiry but the system is very slow.
