This morning reversed car, checked rear view mirror, neighbour reversing car at right angles to mine and I thought we had a near miss. His girlfriend comes to our door when i get home from work and says her boyfriend has notice some minor scratches. He said he thought it was my fault so would I pay for repairs. I said no-one was to blame in my opinion. The positions of our cars made it look as if no-one was behind us as we were reversing. Maybe I wull pay half she suggested. Views welcome please.

Do you have any corresponding damage on your car?

If it was enough to scratch his, then it should leave some evidence behind on yours.

If there's no damage I personally would not be offering anything as there's nothing to prove it was actually your car that scratched his. What if his car was already damaged?

Quite! No, nothing on mine, and neither of us bothered to chaeck at the time as we thought no contat had been made anyway. Regarded it as a near miss.

I wouldn't pay. For a start it doesn't sound like you hit each other - you neither of you noticed anything at ime of supposed impact and no damage on your car. Plus even if it had happened it sounds like just as much their fault as yours. And the damage can't be that bad if he thinks it may have happened when there is no damage to your car so would probably t-cut out anyway.
