Is there anyone that has been through a divorce to a Turkish citizen?

The process seems complicated and unecessary since we married and divorced in the UK. The marriage was registered at the Turkish consulate in London. I just want some reassurance from someone who has done this.

I'm a divorce lawyer and a few years ago did a divorce where the H was a Turkish citizen.

tbh it was no more complicated than a divorce between two UK citizens. You're getting divorced in England and Wales, aren't you?

It's honestly perfectly straightforward, the only complicating factor will be if he or you have assets in Turkey which I presume you don't if you've been living in the Uk throughout the marriage?

Thanks mumblechum1. The UK divorce was finalised a very long time ago, but it was not registered with the Turkish. IT seems that this is not as straightforward as registering the marriage in the first place!

What exactly do you want to do, OP? Register the divorce with the Turkish authorities? If so, then go to their consulate website and they should tell you what's necessary.

I just did one for an Italian lady the other week - divorced in UK, wanted to register it in Italy. They needed an EC declaration signed by the Judge (which you won't need), and copies of the Decree Absolute and Acknowledgement of Service also signed by the Judge.

It was just a little paper exercise, and was straightforward.

If you're English, why are you bothered about registering the divorce in Turkey? Doing so has no obvious advantages that I can see?
