court order to sell a house - what is the process?

I'm asking this on behalf of a friend so that we can understand the system. I got my financial settlement without the courts being too involved, so I'm a little hazy here and can't explain this part from personal experience.

At what point during the divorce process would a judge order a house to be put on the market and sold? What exactly can a judge order? Would there be deadlines? Are you ordered to accept an offer? Does it have to be "reasonable"? Any and all advice very gratefully received.

You need a final financial order - either made by agreement or following contested court proceedings. Sounds like your friend is far from this stage.
