hi, can you give me some advice please. married to a nigerian man with 3 dc, travelling to nigeria on a nigerian passport - all of us - so we can avoid the payment for visas. we are on the verge of divorce and i will be returing to uk after the trip. he will be staying. should i be concerned that i am travelling on a foreign passprt and not my british one? im not expecting anything to happen but ive never travelled on anything but my british passport before. is there anything i need to be aware of?

Agree with the general consensus. It's not a problem. In fact it's better you exit the country on the passport linked to the ticket then enter the second country with the second country's passport (or an affiliated one).

Anywhere which would require visas you need to be careful though as they will look for entry stamps at exit, so if you try to leave the UK on an American passport having entered on a British one (or been born there) you have to explain why you have no entry stamp and often prove it by showing your other passport or birth cert.

So you all need to leave the UK and enter Nigeria on Nigerian passports, then probably leave Nigeria on the Nigerian passport but enter the UK with the British one.

They may not be able to do much if you also hold Nigerian citizenship. It depends what the issue is. If your H confiscates your British passports then yes but if he does something that's technically legal they may find their hands are tied.

OP yes as dudesmummy says that is how it generally is. you will have to answer many questions at immigration otherwise.
for example some one travelling from uk to germany would have to show the german id when entering germany and the uk passport when returning to the uk.

oh yes good point, will be taking care of them thanks

Keep a separate note of the numbers too. And consider leaving a photocopy of the personal details page with someone who coukd fax them through to the High Commission - this is good advice for any traveller BTW.

If you are considered Nigerian by the Nigerian authorities, then there is not much consular assistance that the HC can provide (true for any dual national in their other country), but they can replace British travel documents and the more details you have of missing one's, the easier and faster the process.
