Who pays for Searches (House buying)

The solicitor acting for my DDs house purchaser rang up SIL today and asked him to pay £75 for a search carried out by the Water company about them or the council adopting the drains put in by Taylor Woodrow when they built the house/estate (4ish years ago). The main drains are nowhere near DDs house.

Can they expect DD and SIL to pay for the purchasers search?

PS DD basically told them to get stuffed but was she right!

That's very unusual. I've never heard of a purchaser asking the vendor to pay for searches.

We though it was maybe because its a different issue from the usual ones but totally Confused
