Voucher for restaurant that has closed. Have we lost our money?

Friends really kindly bought us a voucher for a meal at a restaurant as a present. The restaurant has just closed down suddenly. It's a limited company but the registered address at Companies House is the restaurant. The voucher is over 3 months old so we've got no comeback via chargeback.
Does anyone know if there is anything we can do?

If they paid by credit card they can contact the company. Otherwise check who the liquidator id (if it's a ltd company) or the owner (if not) - the friend who bought it will have a claim in contract against them.
