Do you have to give notice at the end of a fixed AST?

I can't seem to find the answer anywhere! We are coming to the end of a 12m fixed AST on 7/4 and have been told we can renew but not roll it over to a period tenancy. Do we need to still give a month's notice if it's ending anyway? We haven't decided whether to stay or move and wondering how much time we have left to decide? Thanks.

You would normally give a month's notice but whether legally you have to I'm not sure. Technically it rolls even if you don't have a new agreement.

I'm not sure about whether you have to give notice. My wife and I did when we recently rented just to be on the safe side.
