Are local council legally bound to re house us?

3 young DCs but council say if you make yourself homeless they will 'put you on waiting list' only.
Is this right?

If you make yourself intentionally homeless when you had accommodation then yes, you will not be housed as a priority.

Yes, that's correct. You must go through the process of being found unitentionally homeless. You can appeal their decision, and possibly be placed in temporary accommodation pending appeal, but if the decision is upheld they are not under any legal obligation to house you as priority.

If you are having housing problems, fairy, maybe try the CAB for full advice on what your options are.

'Shelter' is also very helpful in such situations.

Thankyou.

FWIW, fleeing domestic violence is usually considered unintentionally homeless.

Give Shelter a ring.

Also, if you get onto your council's website and read their full policy on homelessness you may find it more helpful than what you may have been told over the phone.

what were the circumstances of your homelessness?

You have to have been fairly reckless to be found intentionally homeless, esp if you appeal and have a representative.
