Help i have 4 children ,but my eldest who is 10 wants to got out with her friends just up to the shops or round and about but there mothers obviously think they are old enough but i just think they are far to young or have i just turned in to my mother..My daughter is not exactly street wise ,but my daughter thinks i'm being a real old witch because i wont let her off our street should i give her the freedom her friends have ?

Why don't you let her got to the shop and straight back, then take it from there

think back to what you were allowed to do at 10, she won't get street wise if you don't let

(speaking with the knowledge I live in the middle of nowhere and dd1(9) can't go anywhere from here)

Yes -just start with a trip to the nearest point you can observe from a safe distance -shop,post box, friends house -that doesnt involve crossing roads etc. Then work from there accordingly.
You know in your heart you need to let her do this .She cant have Mum walking her to 6th form but it has to start somewhere.

I know how hard it is to let go of your first born but I guarantee that your youngest will be allowed the same 'freedom' at age 8.

It's just different times, I had tons of freedom at 10, and was off cycling to places we weren't meant to be at all, because of that I intend to be strict with mine (they're just babies now). I think going to the shops is probably ok, it depends on the route.

At 8 I had a house key and got home froms school about a half hr before my mum came back from work. I loved having the time to myself obviously nobody would do that now though.
