considering number 6 - please talk me out of it

We have 5 children, ds1 has just gone to secondary school, ds2 is 10, dd1 is 8, ds3 is 5 and dd2 is almost 2. I am back at work part time, there is never quite enough time or money or space but although we said that we were done, dd2 had her first visit at preschool today and will start after half term and I can't bear the thought of no more babies. Also she is 4 acedemic years behind ds3 and will go through all of her school years on her own as we have an infant / junior system now rather than the primary school her siblings went to.

I know the sensible thing is to stick at 5, we have 5 healthy, happy children and whilst I don't want to tempt fate, something is telling me there's space for one more.

Please talk me round !!!

6 is fab! I don't think anyone can tell you what to do.....but I have six and this morning for the first time since #6 came along 4 months ago, I had that awful feeling again that there was someone missing. So talk me out of #7 please LOL!!!

We have 5 children and despite 2 having disabilities the only thing that puts me of having number 6 is the fact we wouldn't all fit in our 7 seater anymore lol.Oh that and where he or she would sleep too,house is about full !
Lots of people think i'm mad but they're just usually the people who don't know how much fun and happiness a large family can bring.
I love my gang,i agree with estar the large families thread is probably not the best place to go for disuading lol x

Blimey, so it's not just me! I'm on number 4 and can't imagine stopping either after this one or at 5. Ok, so the house worries me (4 beds) and what car do people use with 6 kids? Beyond that, what's the problem? Go for it!

Im currently 36 weeks pregnant with my 6th although this one was unplanned (i found out i was pregnant the week before my mum died), and the older dcs are getting excited at having a new baby.

My dcs are dd1 (11yrs, just started comprehensive) dd2 (9yrs) ds1 (5yrs) dd3 (2yrs) ds2 (18mths)

The only problem I can see is we wont all fit in my 7 seater, but have been looking at 8 seaters, and we are hoping to change our car after xmas.

I know that fiat uylsse/citroen synergie/peugeot 806 all the same car just under a different badge comes in 8 seater options.

Vw transporter/T4 have 8 (or 9) seater options (just in case ) Also mercedes vito have a 8 (or 9) seater options

We are thinking of getting one of the first list. As they are the same size as a VW sharan (which we have now)

I'll have a go at talking u out of it. I've got five. Same ages as yours. I've finished and the reason being although it's easy enough meeting the physical needs of another I do not have the time or energy to meet all their emotional needs fully all the time. My middle dd could do with a lot more parental input than she gets. Plus my lot are all healthy and happy why risk rocking the boat?

Halfdozen-freudian slip with your mumsnet name. I think you have your mind made up. I had number 6 last year and it is wonderful. I feel done and complete (also too old for more which helps. As to the vechicle. We were able to conver the middle seats in our van to a bench seat making 8 seats. We found someone on the internet selling a bench seat for our type of van but you can order them from the maker of your type of vehicle and it is easy to remove the seats and put in the bench seat, they pop in and out and it works perfectly. All for less than 100 pounds, much better than a new car.

I only discovered this section of mumsnet this morning - not on all that often i suppose. I have just had my first but I'd love a big family, just see what comes along I reckon! My sister is expecting her 7th in January though and I think she's great (as you all are) - what better gift to your kids than all those sibling pals! They are what you'll leave behind you when you go, and the more the merrier I reckon ;)

Buy a Minibus - then you'll also have room for 7, 8 and 9! {grin]

I think you should go for it if you want another. Bear in mind, though, some people are always broody no matter how many babies they have. My reasons for stopping at 5 are...already hard to find time for each child/housework etc. I also have twins and couldn't cope with more of them! Also, after 4 miscarriages (2 very late) we are just so grateful and don't want to push our luck further. Financially 5 is much easier, car only seats 7. Mainly, though, we just feel 'done'. I still get broody etc at babies but not for long.

We have a Toyota Estima, great cars and 8 seats.

We need a bigger one, have 7 children.

The youngest has just had her 1st Birthday and i thinking of #8. I like even numbers.

I just can't face the pregnancy again, it gets harder every time. SPD and sickness.

I would quite like the stork to drop a baby on the doorstep tbh.
