I am wee bit miffed!

don't think it paints an even faintly realistic picture!

Why what would a mother of 4 teenage children have told us ?

We have a lady at school with 5 from 23 to 8 and she says don't do it lol

It amazes me that people are paid to write such narrow minded, poorly researched trash. Their lazy research extends only to their own back yard. Big families are important and popular culturally...catholic, jewish, bangladeshi....always have been... but the writer would not have bothered to look outside of Nottinghill.

I'm relatively new and am pleased to see a larger families thread because I get sick of the negativity other people seem to have when you turn up with 4 in tow!
How ridiculous to think we do it just to "look good"!!! I looked a helluva lot better before my kids!
Seriously, though, how you can be accused of trying to flaunt some sort of status, be it a good marriage, or money, etc just ebcause your children number 4 or more is so small minded! Must come from people who can't imagine a life full of noise, life and abundant chaos that is the fun side of a big family!

I think people are being unnecessarily harsh on the article.

It is responsible parenting to limit your family size at what you can afford. If you have lots of disposable income, you can afford more children - simple really!

I used to dream that if I won the lottery (which I don't even do), I would have more children. I wouldn't have more children now because I need to work to support what I have and things would fall apart without my income.

Some women (not all, of course) from all social classes would love to just keep having children. Most limit these urges by their ability to provide independently for their families without recourse to public funds. If their DH gets a promotion, it isn't unreasonable to have an other baby.
