DECKmuppetWITHBOUGHSOFHOLLY · 23/12/2008 18:47

I've just been wandering about the house muttering to myself 'Children who are the same age are twins you fool!'

bless. Thank you for the chuckle though

Having said that you can have siblings of the same age who arent twins cant you so maybe you're not complately odd

NotBigJustBolshy · 23/12/2008 19:24

I once taught a class with 2 brothers in it - I assumed they were twins, but in fact there was a nine month age gap

DECKmuppetWITHBOUGHSOFHOLLY · 23/12/2008 19:25

The only thing I can say in my defence is that my friend's hubby taught siblings in the same academic year. One was born in sept and the other in july. I think I got confused with that (well that's my excuse and I'm sicking to it )

I've taught half siblings of the same age with the same dad (daddy played away)

justify, justify, justify....

LadyOfWaffle · 23/12/2008 19:34

Awww, I love the Duggars. Isn't the birth rate falling now to 1.7 per couple? If people can moan at them, they should moan at people with anything other than 2 children TBH. Rant over, too busy looking and cute baby pictures

Astrophe · 23/12/2008 22:17

I wonder if the C section will mean there is now a limit on future pregnancies? Isn't it 4 sections you can have? Or I guess she could have a VBAC? [ponders...]

I wonder what they would do if they were told it would be dangerous to have more for some reason? I wonder if they would have the same no contraception policy if she got hyperemisis? I wonder if her own daughters will also not use contraception?

Very intrigueing family! I bet Christmas is a realy blast in their house

MadamePlatypus · 24/12/2008 08:00

To be fair, Britney Spear's children are 363 days apart.

SparklyBaubleFeast · 24/12/2008 08:09

surely she will have a vaginal prolapse, be incontinent etc., etc., and other medical problems.

after 18 pregnancies!

Amani · 24/12/2008 08:24

good god, i struggle with 2, i just can't comprehend how she would manage 18!!!

Fivesetsofschoolfees · 24/12/2008 09:15

There are two sets of twins in the Duggar family.

The average age gap is 18 months.

Ripeberry · 24/12/2008 10:03

They are truly blessed and also there is no way they could live in a city with so many children.
I think the more children you have the easier it is on the parents as the children (if they have been trained to) can help with looking after the younger ones and do some chores.
Quite a few famillies around me have 5 or 6 children and the eldest ones from the age of 14 upwards take turns cooking the evening supper and putting the youngest to bed.
Its just natural. Whats not natural is a familly where no one helps the mum and expects her to do all the cooking, cleaning and looking after the children.
From an early age i've encouraged my DDs to help tidy up their toys, take their plates to the kitchen when they've finished eating and wipping down the table and they are only 6 and 3yrs old.
When they get older they will have other "chores" to do.
Because the older they get, the less they will want to help out, unless its for personal gain.

OHBollox · 24/12/2008 12:16

If from day one the kids all have to help out and have a purpose within the family then they won't mind because they don't know any different.
You look at those children and none of them are obsess, they all sit nicely whilst the their parents talk and we don't see Michelle running to supernanny because she can't cope.
People could learn alot from that family.

MrsWeasleyStrokesSantasSack · 28/12/2008 10:55

I love the Duggars, amazingly strong family by all accounts. Hats off to Michelle.

Kristingle · 28/12/2008 11:00

i think they are totally mad but i can't deny that their children all seem happy and well adjusted ( unlike mine ). The parenst work to support them all so good luck to them

Lonnie · 28/12/2008 23:24

my dd1 is obsessed with the Duggars and we have 3 taped she is desperatly hoping that they will send more on discovery..

she got the book they have made for Christmas and is nearly done and she is NOT a big reader..

It wouldnt be my choice of life but I do think (having seen each of the programmes at least 30 times - well not in full lol I can switch off) that they have a well functioning relationship with all of their children. I have no issue with them going on to having more..

As for "can she have more" whom will stop her? you cant force sterilise a woman because she has had 3 c secs// and I know a woman whom went onto have a VBAC after a 3 c secs..

the children are named with J names as they named the first Joshua as they liked it.. the next two (twins) became John-David and Jana because they liked that and they never considered that they where all 3 J names.. but then as they expected no 4 they felt that he or she shouldnt be the only one to have a non J name so they contnued the theme.. I know several other people whom have chosen to give their children names that start with the same or rhyme.. t is simply because there is 18 of them we start to think ohhhh

she has breastfed them all and the dress set up is something they say they wish to do dress modestly because they wish a person to like them for their personality and not their body.. it is actually very clean good values..

but I am not giving up on my tv lol

Gunnerbean · 30/12/2008 19:40

It does make you a little cynical when you read that:

"The cable network TLC broadcasts a weekly show about the Duggars, called "Seventeen and Counting." Chris Finnegan of TLC ? which handles public relations for the Duggar family ? said the show's name would be updated to account for the latest addition to the family. He said TLC also will air a show Monday on the baby's delivery."

It's obviously a major source of income to them and I can remember from watching the very first programme ("14 Kids and Counting I think it was) that their lifestyle and standard of living (especially getting the house) seems to have improved quite considerably. Them having yet more kids will ensure yet more media attention, more TV programmes and more money. When the never ending stream of babies dries up so to speak, the money will too.

Never fear though, the eldest son has just got married a couple of months back so he'll be off and running with the babies soon too. Check out he and his new wife's website:

here

How old does the wife look? .

What's the betting the TV company suggests that their first baby coincides with the arrival of mum's next one .

Once they all get into their stride old Jim-Bob and Michelle will be having about 5 grand children a month turning up!!

MamaBear76 · 30/12/2008 22:15

Why do the Duggar children all look so clean, pleasant and happy? Mine are very loved but do fight with each other, get messy, and occasionally turn into monsters. I thought all children did that - but I must be wrong. Why do I feel like I shout all day and have unruly children and Michelle does not shout and has happy families. Do you think it is parenting style?

Fivesetsofschoolfees · 30/12/2008 22:19

If you read some of the things that Michelle Duggar has written, you will find that she has the same problems as any other mum. Maybe she is in not so bad a place now with lots of older children ot help out, but she has gone through despair at how to get all the laundry done, and stayed up till 2 in hte morning trying to get all the chores finished.

She is very big on looking smart, for example all the boys have short, gelled-down hair. So, when they do roll around in the mud, they come up looking OK.

Astrophe · 01/01/2009 22:31

aw, the website of the oldest duggar boy and his wife is lovey. They look so happy and their marriage story is like a fairy tale.

I think the wife looks about 21...same age I was when I got married actually...is that rally so shocking???

juuule · 02/01/2009 13:26

I think they look lovely,too.

Not sure what Gunner means when she asks how old his wife looks?

OP posts:
Gunnerbean · 02/01/2009 23:33

Nothing about it - I meant she looks about 15!! But I shouldn't be surprised I suppose, I guess it's par for the course to be married off by the time you're that age if you live in the Bible Belt!
