Just wondering how it worked out for you?
Did you go for the 4th+ so your third had a close in age sibling?

For anyone who didn’t have the fourth in this age gap dynamic are you glad you didn’t or do you regret it?

My brother and his wife did this. DC1&2 are 18m apart. Then there’s a 4.5yr gap and DC3&4 are 20m apart.

They are all quite close, and yes the youngest two do have a particularly special bond, even now as teenagers. Oldest 3 are girls and then youngest is a boy.

They have always had a lot of help from family so have never really had to manage on their own - like when they had 2 under 2 the first time round, my parents were both very available to them, as was SIL’s dad who was semi-retired. When they had the younger two and had 2 under 2 again, and had to do school runs etc as well, again, they had our mum do a lot for them and by that time SIL’s mum had fully retired (but conversely her dad had upped his hours again because he was bored!) so helped out a lot.

Me! I had my eldest (from a previous marriage) then 9yrs later I had 2&3 17m apart. Then 8yrs later I had 4&5 22m apart.

They are 24, 15, 13, 5 and 3.

its worked brilliantly for us, they all get on really well, and who is closest to who varies.

A friend when I was a teen was 16 and had a 15 year sibling and then also 4 and 3 year old siblings .

that happened because her mother a
second husband.

the friend (the 16yo in this story) replicated this spacing with her own children, but with only one husband involved .

so she must have looked at her own family experience as a child with great warmth and wanted to give her children the same .

Yes my friend has two teens of 18 and 16 then 6 and 4 and it's a very happy dynamic I think.

We have a two older teens and a 2 year old who dotes on them and vice versa. They have so many jokes together and play with the little one constantly and I find it very sweet how kind and fun they are . I didn't consider a 4th as find it hard to keep up with 3 as well as we did with 2- they all have different interests !
