"vitriol"?

i must be mssing something

i've just seen piss-taking

Amapoleon · 08/04/2008 14:35

Years ago Sting said he could make a recording of his farts and people would still buy it, I think the same applies to cod

StormyRaincloud · 08/04/2008 15:38

gosh it's very cliquey round here isn't it.

fircone · 08/04/2008 15:55

the "larger families" section is SMUG.

It's full of people who do that awful self-deprecating bragging act, "Oh, it's mayhem here! Persephone on violin, Crispin nagging me to play chess, Theodora reciting poetry, Angus inventing something or other, four-year-old Anjelica asking for help with her Latin verbs, Tarquin climbing a tree in our orchard - and I've just conceived another baby just while standing at the Aga."

CountessDracula · 08/04/2008 15:57

I think vampires should have their own section too

Kathyis6incheshigh · 08/04/2008 15:58

But where would it be? Under religion and spirituality? Employment? Or food?

zippitippitoes · 08/04/2008 15:59

there should be a section for people who dont have children living with them

we vampires have problems of our own you know

Blinking brats NEVER want to breastfeed, they always go for the jugular

They just WILL NOT sleep at night. Always off flying around somewhere

They freak if you put even a hint of garlic in their dinner

Honestly
It is TOUGH

CountessDracula · 08/04/2008 16:02

ERR
surely cod has 3 kids
does that not qualify for the larger families clique then?

Kathyis6incheshigh · 08/04/2008 16:03

PMSL Countess.

I am laughing like a drain at the breakfast thread too. (Well, obviously not the bit about people's grandmas being one of 22 children and 11 dying.)

These 'offended' threads do end up adding greatly to the sum of human gaiety, don't they?

Twas my great gran, I think kathy, and don't worry!

I always wonder if we need quite so many topics to post under. I now ignore more than I subscrubeto.....but if we are going to do this can be have a Fat gemini's topic?

Or even a Fat Welsh Gemini's topic

mydhissocute · 08/04/2008 16:12

A bit of smugness never hurt anyone. There are other topics that could be considered smug too such as multiple births, home-ed etc. (how do you manage to do X with twins? The school system doesn't cater for my PFB) but they do give good advice and support to people for whom they are relevent. Multicultural families was really useful to me when I was being racially abused by people in my village but there are lots of people who would think its a stupid topic. I thought Cod's threads were quite funny but its obvious that some people see it as Cod just taking the piss out of them for no reason. And there really wasn't any reason for it, there are loads of minority interest topics and there is a fair amout of smugness and pretention in Chat on most days.

CountessDracula · 08/04/2008 16:13

god I would have a breakdown at the thought of having twins
Is it something to be smug about
I always thought it was more something to be pitied
someone I know had triplets
I almost sent them a sympathy card

(ignore me i am shit at babies)

zippitippitoes · 08/04/2008 16:14

oh yes a gemini topic there are lots of interesting geminis on mn

mydhissocute · 08/04/2008 16:25

Someone in my street has twins. I want to punch her.

'I almost died during my c-sec, because I have twins'

'soft play? I'm not sure if they will let me in with twins'

'you'll never cope with two' to everyone she knows who is pg with their 2nd

'we need a bigger house/conservatory/specialist private school/special cot/special bed, because we have twins'

'This is the only car we could get as its the only one suitable for twins'

'I have to have my groceries delivered, because I have twins'

Then there is the daily lecture on child benefit and how their was only one school to apply to as all the others only have a one form entry and it is very important that they are in seperate classes.

HarrogateMum · 08/04/2008 16:39

erm, why is multiple births topic smug? You've lost me.

Probably because I HAVE TWINS

Feel free to punch me.

mydhissocute · 08/04/2008 17:11

sometimes people post very ordinary questions in multiple births with a 'I am so special because I have twins and if I had single babies then I wouldn't need to ask' slant on it. This could be percieved as smugness. I think that larger families will end up with some of these threads too.

I don't think that this is necessairly a bad thing though. Like I said earlier, a bit of smugness never hurt anyone and one of the glorious things about mumsnet is that you can go on and on about something and always have someone who understands whereas in real life you will get punched after a few years of not changing the record.

And yes, there is an element of jealousy. I am a twin and would love to have twins. Although my dcs are all quite close in age I secretly feel sorry for them because they aren't twins.

mydhissocute · 08/04/2008 17:16

Gifted and Talented is another one. Massive amount of support and practical advice for the parents of Gifted children with a rich vein of 'My dcs are the cleverest people who ever lived. I am going to list all the things that they can do so you can all admire me' running through it.

HarrogateMum · 08/04/2008 17:17

I get your point. I only ever go on the general chat thread on multiples anyway but will keep a lookout for those other threads! What is a larger family anyway - I have 3 - does that count? (probably not.......)
