Three Car Seats SUVs…?

Hi,

We are currently trying for baby number 3 and I want to get a new car. I have two older children 8 and 9 but both are still in booster seats. I think that my eldest is 140cm or above but I’m not sure, however, they are slight in build so prefer the protection of the Cybex booster.

I went to look at an Audi Q4 e tron today. Has anybody been able to fit 3 car seats in the back…?

Alternatively, what SUVs do you have that you have managed to fit 3 seats in…?

YY to the above.

Look into estate cars or minivans with “car-like” front ends if you want a bigger vehicle for more children.

The design of SUVs is inherently dangerous due to the high, blunt hood and unnecessary weight. If you hit a pedestrian in a regular car, they’ll probably get hit in the legs and be flipped onto the hood, rolling off to the side. If you hit a pedestrian in a vehicle with a high, blunt hood, you will hit an adult in the chest, and a child in the head. The odds of them ending up under the SUV are far higher than with a regular car.

You are also more likely to hit a child in the first place due to the “blind spot” issue. This includes your own child. In the US, there are now about 50 “frontover” incidents a year, where someone driving slowly out of their driveway crushes a child (unusually their own child or grandchild) because they literally didn’t see them.

I am sorry, but they should be heavily restricted esp in urban areas. Paris is currently voting on charging a heavy parking premium on these vehicles, so the tide is hopefully turning in the direction of taxing and restricting their use.

@fearfuloffluff

Yes people managed with smaller cars, dp remembers climbing into the boot of his mums estate car (4 kids) and funny enough that's not allowed now thankfully! For 3 kids you have limited options, mpvs are gradually being discontinued in favour of suv styles (they aren't really 4x4!)

@mishmased Brand new or second-hand makes no difference, as long as it works for your family. 🙂

I must say that I’d rather look younger and we both must be doing something right lol.

Whichever car you choose, I hope that you love it.

@user1477391263 You are entitled to your opinion and I respect you expressing your thoughts. I have zero intention of running over anyone, just like I didn’t when I owned a Fiesta (my first car).

I have ordered the car that I feel is right for my family so I hope that you can respect my choice. Have a great Sunday.

Yes @gotomomo, one of my siblings used to get into the boot or they would sit in the footwell. 🫣

People used to have tiny cars sure. But they didn’t have to have massive car seats inside in 1970s.
Our Isofix 0-4 year old seat is rear facing blah blah and takes up more space in car that a large adult would.
When I was a child friends parents would pile 7 children into the back of their car which isn’t at all safe or down thing now.

Just filled up our Id4. Toddler car seat one side, 3 pairs skis, ski poles, boots, and other child related crap all easily fitted inside car also without be having to add roof ski rack on also.

@JAJ85 did you get your car yet? We ended up getting a 2022 ID.5 which is similar to the ID.4 and so far we love it. It even has Isofix attachment in front if we need to move the 10 year olds car seat. Happy driving!

@mishmased ah WONDERFUL! I’m happy for you. The front isofix is the icing on the cake. 👌🏼

My car was at the port in Germany last week, I’m not expecting it until new year now. I suppose the wait hasn’t been too bad for a new build compared to others waiting 10+ months! I will come and update when I have it. I already bought the Maxi Cosi boosters that were suggested in here.

Have a grey Peugeot 3008 GT, massage seats, heated seats, CarPlay.. top notch. But need to sell as we’re a bit tight on money. With the mortgage and a newborn it’s hard. Car is in mint condition. If interested let me
