Can you tell me about the zafira tourer? Or other 7 seaters that are as cheap

I'm due my 3rd and don't think I'll cope for long stuck in the middle of the second row in my current car. Hubby needs to commute to work so can't trade it in. I'm looking at a cheap 7 seater that will fit us all in nicely.

Can you tell me the pros and cons?
I'm open to other cars but with my limited price range (max £6000. Ideally more towards £4500-5000) I'm not sure what is reasonable without being really old

We have had ours for six years now and it’s been really good. Reliable and roomy.

NoHardSell · 26/05/2020 07:41

Great car, love it

You can't fit 3 carseats across the middle row I think, so that could be a down side?

poorbuthappy · 26/05/2020 07:49

VW toran. Our first 7 seater when the twins turned up.

JeDeFloupFlee · 26/05/2020 07:53

Is the middle seat bigger than the sort of bench seats you get in a 5 seater? I'm happy to still sit in the 2nd row or if its allowed have the eldest (hbb) in one of the 3rd row seats permanently but not sure if that's okay as I read something a while ago about it

Do not get the Renault Espace. While big - can get three car seats in a row - it is a complex car with expensive to repair parts.

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 26/05/2020 08:06

We had a zafira but I started to get anxiius about the safety of the 3rd row. Ours was old though.

Why would you be sitting in the second row? Wont you be in the front?

Lollypop4 · 26/05/2020 08:37

we have a Kia Sorrento, love it! the boot seats are genourous in space too, however, my dc at age 11 could no longer use boot seats as leg room major issue, when all 6 of us are in car now (very rare) dc age 5, goes in his car seat in boot no problem

lockdowncockdown · 26/05/2020 08:42

What about a ford galaxy or a grand c max or s max?

JeDeFloupFlee · 26/05/2020 08:43

I'd be sitting in the 2nd row because I know in the zafira it's not 3 full size seats so can't fit 3 car seats across. I'd obviously be in the front if driving but if we're all out as a family of 5 then one of us adults will need to be in the middle seat and I'm smaller than my husband lol. Unless of course it's safe to put my oldest in the boot seat but I read your not supposed to do that permanently so I need to look into that more also

We only used the back row for extras eg when transporting 7. No rear row of any 7 seater is all that safe.
The middle row aren't bench seats, it's something in the handbook about the middle seat not being suitable for a carseat. It's fine for adults and 3 adults fit in the middle row just about, so the space is good.
It's miles better than the old style zafiras for that

LimpLettice · 26/05/2020 09:16

I bought a 2013 S Max in your budget a few months ago for the same reason. I was moving up from a Meriva so went to view a couple of Zafiras but in all honesty, the size of the middle seat wasn't much of an improvement on the Meriva so I test drove the S Max. Loads of space, much nicer drive, lovely build quality. Oh and it has the Ford heated windscreen so no scraping on the school run!

JeDeFloupFlee · 26/05/2020 09:24

@LimpLettice I've been lusting after the smax but didn't think I'd get what I wanted for my price. I'll need to look out for a good deal on that one maybe

I did strike a bit of a bargain I grant you, but it's an excellent car and the three isofix enabled rear seats are a massive bonus. I could've had a newer Zafira for the money but the difference even with the older model made it just a no brainer. And I drive an auto so a manual should be slightly less expensive.

When mine were young (20 months between each, so newborn, 20 months and 3.4) we had a Ford Mondeo with 2 Britax Prince seats and a baby seat. You can get 3 across the big older cars like Mondeo.

Then we moved over to a Ford Galaxy - only about £800 and lasted us years. It has separate seats, so no issue with car seat width.

NotIncandescentWithRage · 30/05/2020 13:16

I’ve got an smax. I love it more than my husband!! not kidding and he’s knows it

Helenj1977 · 31/05/2020 11:17

I'm also looking at a 7 seater. I love the Citreon Picasso grand. 3 isofix seats in the middle row and not a bad boot space even when the third row is being used.

Haven't test driven one yet but this is my favourite. I have 3 and my older 2 are fighting when sat together due to lack of space!

Windyatthebeach · 04/06/2020 14:08

We have a grand scenic.

Threnody · 04/06/2020 17:28

We have a Zafira and have 3 car seats across the middle row. It's a good car, though visibility reversing is a bit rubbish compared to our Corsa. We're hoping to have #4, and looking at getting a multimac to fit 4 in the middle row as I'm a bit unsure about the safety of the back row, and the bootspace is useful.
