Anyone given up their bedroom and slept in the living room?

Seriously considering doing this.

Have 4 kids. 3 bed terrace.

Housing association. No bigger. Been on exchange list forever trying to get a 3 bed with 2 reception rooms. No luck.

Have DD on box room. 3 boys in other room. Then DH and I.

Has anyone given up their room and just sleep downstairs?

I'd have to get a good sofa bed.

Are the boys playing up all in together?

Why isn't the current set up working

WynnieBagel · 13/02/2020 08:34

They are 8, 13 and 15. It's a small room. They're on top of each other. No privacy. Constant fighting.
No room for a desk for homework etc

DS1 is doing his GCSEs next year. He needs space and quiet

I cant put him in the box room alone because then DD will have to share with her brothers and she is 12 and very body conscious and stuff now.

A friend of mine did it - similar situation with 4 kids (3 girls and a boy) in a three bed home (plus two parents). It seemed to work ok for them. They enjoyed watching TV in bed. Just meant the teenagers had to be up in their rooms (or the kitchen) once the parents went to bed. Would work better if you have a kitchen that's big enough to sit down in I think.

Dh, dd and I live in a 1 bed flat. Dd has the bedroom and we have a sofabed in the lounge.

It works for us. I have tinnitus so going to sleep with the tv on helps me. We have space in our hallway for ikea box shelves with our day to day clothes in baskets and still have a triple wardrobe in the bedroom.

I am having to do this myself now. We are in a 2 bed maisonette with no option to move to somewhere bigger right now. My oldest is 6 nearly 7 and I have another daughter who is almost 4 and a son who is 2. They were all sharing but it's far too hectic at bedtime. I've put the 2 youngest in the smaller bedroom and given dd the bigger room with all their toys, TV etc. that they use in the day. It's been working well so far, I use a mattress in the living room that I bring out every evening. When they are all older the 2 girls will share and my son will have his own room.
