2 year old hitting is baby brother

Hi,

I have 3 children, my oldest son has just turned 2, and I have 10 month old B/G twins.

My trouble is my oldest keeps hitting his brother, or he sort of pushes him with his head. It’s normally when I tell him off, or he can’t do something he takes his frustrations out on him. He occasionally does it to his sister but mainly his brother gets the brunt of it. I tell him off when he does it, I tried shouting and talking to him, but he’s 2 he doesn’t take any notice, he does cry if I actually move him away and tell him off. I tried and get him to say sorry and kiss/cuddle his brother he just ignores me.

He went through a phase of doing this a few months ago, until a friends little boy hit him, and he stopped! But he’s started again, I do wonder if it’s to do with the twins now crawling and they can get to things, like all children he’s not very good at sharing and always takes the twins toys.

Any suggestions on how I can stop this? I think he might be too young for a naughty step.

Thanks!

Mine did this when he was 2 with his baby brother. He's trying to get attention and also play with the baby. You have to show him how to play nicely so I took 2you hands and showed him how to gently stroke head or tickle feet/ tummy. Using gentle hands.
They are mostly, best buddies at 4 and 2yo now. However the tables have turned a bit and 2yo is now pushing his big brother about. Hmm
