Larger families

Find out all about large family cars, holidays and more right here.

Are there any cars out there with decent boot space that will fit 4 children?

After lots of dithering we decided to go for DC 3... To find out DC3 is actually DC3 AND 4.!!!!

In shock to say the least, and being practical, immediately worrying about logistics. Car being one of them. The 7 sweaters mentioned often in this Larger Families bit of MN are all well and good but none seem to have boots? Am I missing something? Do you just need to get a 7 sweater and a roofbox for buggies, travel cots etc?

Advice much appreciated. Biggest boot I've found so dear is land rover discovery..

We used a Citroen C8 when ours were younger and we needed prams etc. It worked well enough could have a Phill and Teds at the back when all 7 seats were up no issue (usually though we only had 6 seats)

We were over in the UK with our 4 kids and a shedload of luggage this past summer. We had a Vauxhall Zafira. Three children in the second row and one child in the third row with the rest of the back row seat down. Was ace!

Our Grande Espace has been a total disaster - the first one we had died 2 weeks out of warranty (known fault with the engine), we've had electrical failures, brake problems, the dashboard failed (another known problem) - you name it, it's had it. As a people carrier it's brilliant and if it was reliable, then we'd get another one - but I don't know anyone who has had one for any length of time who would buy another!

We have four children and are getting a dog, so are currently looking....the Disco looked too small (our children are all tall, DH is 6ft 6) so we've looked at a Caravelle (too vanny for us) and a Sharan (probably a bit small once the younger 2 are teen sized), so we're still prevaricating and haven't yet decided! We'll probably just buy a Sharan and sell it after 3 years - to get something bigger once they are all teenagers. If I could buy a German engineered, reliable Espace size/design, we'd do that - but we haven't found it yet!
