To those of you who have number 5, was you labelled a high risk pregnancy

MW has told me I will need to fight for a HB and given me the scare stories, saying I will need cannula.

I am ready for the fight but I have heard that number 5 is only high risk in some areas and in others it is number 6???

I had my 5th at home and they tried to say I was high risk. I was also 40.

All previous labours had been fine and I lived ten mins from hosp. Birth and baby were perfect.... On Mother's Day

They told me number 6 would be high risk (admittedly 15 years ago!)

I was only 28 with number 5 though.

Yes they told me I was high risk and tried to insist on the drip etc.

I was booked in for home birth but ended up being induced as dd was late.

My midwife wasn't worried as all my other pregnancies and births had been very straightforward, easy quick lab ours, minimal bleeding etc.

Its the risk of haemorrage that they worry about but there is a study that shows if you are well, had previous normal births etc then there isn't extra risks..,the link was posted on mnet a while ago, will see if I can find it.

BTW midwife was fine it was registrars/consultants at hospital who go it their knickers in a twist!

Tbh they cant say no,they can only advise you.if you are on baby number 10 you can give birth at home regardless of what anyone says.its your decision,and also its worth investigating these risks they talk about.sometimes they tell you the risk of something has doubled,whih straight away makes you think oh no thats bad,when actually its doubled from 1 in a 1000 to 2 in a thousand!

I had number 11 and 12 at home, with some special drug available if necessary. All absolutely fine, hardly bled at all, but I had same supportive midwife for all my children. I was 41 with number 12, and knew that a homebirth was what I wanted! I was pretty sure they would not be able to provide statistics either way for delivering number 11 or 12!!!

I'm pg with number 6 - had hb's with 2, 3 4 and 5 no probs.

Am supposedly high risk this time (i'm 31) but mw had to book me for consultant led care. Saw consultant at 12 weeks, who signed me off for birth at a MLU.

Then saw my mw, who said now I have been signed off I can do what i like, so am opting for Hb again - she said this was probably safer! (I have quick births)

She said the only risk is bleeding (which I have never had before) and that as long as iron levels are fine, I should be ok, plus I am not allowed to refuse the synto inj after birth this time (which I have done all the other times, after a reaction in my leg the first time)

cazboldy -do you not want the injection?because you are allowed to refuse it!They can only advise you,they cant tell you your not allowed to refuse something.

I've had 5 and there was absolutely no mention of being high risk with no5.
If anything my mw was pushing for a home birth but I was happier going into hospital.

My 5th was considered high risk and they wanted to put a cannular in my arm in case I had a pph, but I did with my 4th, so it was a valid concern and prob not just because it was my 5th.

I had my DC5 last Saturday and the pregnancy/labour was considered no increased risk.

I was with DS5 (and then with DD) as I was trying for a VBAC.

also I was 35 when I had him (37 with DD)

plus I lost a lot of blood with DS1 (forceps)

yep, I was told I was high risk with both dc 5 and 6. Both of whom were uncomplicated lovely homebirths
I had a massive fight for DC 6. not only was a baby number 6 (so I was told over and over I wasnt "allowed" a homebirth) but he ended up being 19 days late and the battles I had with a every member of staff at the local maternity unit who all tried to "make me" go in to be induced....

I was categorically told I wasn't high risk with my 5th, even though I was almost 44. My MW suggested a HB and it was all going ahead until we found out DD was breech at the last minute.

I'm high risk for numerous reasons; 2nd twin PG, both twin PGs not far apart, previous crap iron levels, and on babies #5 & #6.

I hope to have a HB with #7 in the future.

I had a c-section for number 1 so all subsequent ones were classes as high risk. I had numbers 6 and 7 at home though

I know this thread is a couple of months old but very relevant to me right now.

Im 30 weeks with dc6 & im 40. Im really upset as I had been led to believe I could use the mlu at the hospital. Now they say I can't. They want to induce me on EDD. Minimum of twice weekly monitoring from 37 weeks. Labour etc etc...

Its spoiling the end of my pregnancy. I had a third degree tear with my 1st-24 years ago. No problems with subsequent pregnancies or births. Last 2 were water births at a stand alone centre.

I don't/can't/won't fight the hcps. Im just not going tp attend the hospital again. I will only go to my mw appointments.

How did you all cope with being treated like a policy or statistic? I go ftom being angry to tearful!

Shellywelly ive only had 3 but know someone who had their 5th not long ago the midwife told them that the high risk thing from baby 5 + is all based on what they went on years ago but some hospitals still stand the same thoughts i tell you what theirs this fantastic facebook page from a midwife www.facebook.com/virginia.h.midwife it has great advice on their and she even answers questions maybe that will help you out take care and congrats

I am being treated the same shelly. They want me in from 37 weeks with the view to induce me ASAP and don't want me past 39 weeks. I have been completely refused the MLU.

I am now housebound/couch bound due to pgp so may allow early induction but only if I am completely viable. But I would not consider this for their reasons alone.
