South African Hammantaschen recipe?

At this time of year, I always get nostalgic for the South African Hammantaschen of my childhood - big yeast-based pastries filled with cream cheese or poppy seed. They are very different to the typical jam or chocolate, biscuit style pastries that are made in the UK. The South African ones were much closer to a kind a danish pastry than a biscuit.

Just wondering whether anyone knows what I am referring to and has a good recipe for the South African version?

Oh how interesting! We've been experimenting with challah-tashen so they're soft and fluffy. We made pizza-tashen with challah dough last year so mashing up all sorts of cultures!

If nothing else comes in on this you could try using challah dough and seeing if it feels familiar?

Oh and I was curious so googled and there are tons of recipes online - might try one of them myself!

Thanks. I’d not had much luck googling before, but have just found this:

which is closest to what I remember.

Argh! The pictures have got mixed up. Still, I'm sure it can be worked out.

That sounds like we used to get in the bakeries in Manchester. Soft, sort of greasy/cakey and with poppy seed filling. They probably still sell them?
