School omitted the word Jews in their report of hmd. What would you do?

Depends. Are there other Jewish families in the school? What has the vibe been like generally in the school the last 16 months?

HotPotatoesies · 15/02/2025 15:39

What did it say?

Howdoidothis25 · 16/02/2025 08:34

It talked about all the other holocausts but not the Jewish one. There are a scattering of other Jews in the school, the vibe has been not great but the school generally deal with it, but this was outrageous imo!

What other holocausts?

When else has a specific group of people been methodically murdered and their corpses incinerated on an industrial scale?

Holocaust: a complete burning of a thing, a burnt offering of ritual sacrifice where the whole sacrifice was burned up rather than just a portion. From Greek holokaustos, holo - whole, kaustos - burnt.

OP probably meant other genocides.

Can you write an email to the head?
Whatever the intention behind this omission, it’s important to rectify it. You could ask CST for advice.

Dilbertian · 16/02/2025 12:14

The Holocaust was a genocide.

Other genocides were not holocausts.

Important to make the difference.

Howdoidothis25 · 17/02/2025 07:41

Sorry, bad use of words, other genocides. I’ve written to the head but he has made excuses. It seems intentional though he has denied it was

It's attitudes like your HT's that appropriate meaning and blur boundaries, resulting in exactly that sort of slip-up.

I would contact

cst.org.uk
and

hmd.org.uk
for advice. They are very helpful.

Possibly also the Anne Frank Foundation.
