I saw a 'Boycott Israel' sticker on an item in the Kosher section in Sainsbury's

So I bought the item.

Only when I got home did I realise that I was not actually supporting Israel by buying something made in Israel, as Blooms Kosher Chorizo is produced in the UK.

Now I regret not showing it to Customer Services and pointing out that if they leave such things on display they are promoting anti-semitism.

I think you could still email it to Customer services. They need to be vigilant and remove this sort of thing.

100% email customer services @Dilbertian
I'm sorry you had to see it.

Humdingerydoo · 08/09/2024 21:31

That is awful - it is so outrageously anti-Semitic it's not even funny.

For any lurkers who think we're overreacting - we're not. It's entirely anti-Semitic to hold Jewish people responsible for Israel. It's not Israelis who keep kosher - it's Jewish people.

That's awful, OP. I would complain to the customer services. It isn't even made in Israel so is definitely antisemitic. Makes me so angry.
Our Sainsbo has a small section with Israeli produce. I haven't seen anything like this there but will complain if I do.

EllaDisenchanted · 09/09/2024 12:56

awful! definitely email and complain

Exactly the same thing happened to me in Sainsburys over the summer.

I took the item to the front of the store and asked to speak to a manager. When they arrived, they asked me if I wanted to take the label off before buying it. I explained that I didn't want to buy it, but wanted to draw their attention to the fact that this was on their shelves, it was upsetting for me and they should check the store. I don't think that they understood the point that I was making.

As an aside, we constantly find pork products placed on the shelves of the kosher chilled section in our local branch. Sometimes they are hidden behind other products. I can only think that this is deliberate. I have tried speaking to the staff. Often they haven't understood why this is upsetting. When I did manage to speak to a manager, he told me that it happened all the time when he worked in Stanmore - but didn't seem to want to take the conversation further.

Sorry, a bit late to the conversation. Yes, all the Israeli dates in Waitrose were covered with these stickers and leaflets. I wrote to the customer services and they were very helpful. I took photos to send then removed the stickers etc.

Our town has recently been covered in stickers, this time "boycott Israeli genocide". Dh and I bought hot chocolates and enjoyed the afternoon going lamppost to lamppost removing them. It was somehow romantic.

BeretInParis · 12/09/2024 23:13

Thank you for doing that @MovingBird123 You're a mensch.

I’ve also removed pro-Pally stickers from lampposts! it felt very cathartic.

Meanwhile, I've ended up with six mangoes from Costco purely because they're from Israel 😂 I mean, I like mango... Not quite sure what to do with six of them though!

Yes! Here too, the only fresh produce from Israel in the shops here are mangoes at the moment. We are eating so many...

I saw one of these on a packet of wipes at my local B&M. I took it to a member of staff, who was very apologetic. I live in a student area of a very lefty city, so it was probably some young SJW.

In any case, I bought all the wipes they had in stock!

Dilbertian · 23/09/2024 12:17

I've not seen these stickers ' in the wild' before. Not in my naice, middle class Home Counties town with a handful of invisible Jewish families.

No, the place I saw the sticker was in ethnically diverse north west London.
