Charity that supports both sides of the conflict

I am a senior leader at work and a member of our multicultural network. I've been asked to support a sponsored climb that two members of the network are undertaking 'to raise funds for humanitarian aid in Palestine'. The funds would go to a charity called Muslim Charity.

I would prefer to offer a donation to a charity that supports both sides of the conflict or one that promotes peace through mutual understanding.

Does anyone know of a suitable charity I could donate to?

I wonder if maybe this is something you could ask israelilefty on her AMA? She seems to have good insight into these things.

I hope you find something suitable :)

Thanks so much

Hi, I'm not Jewish, so I hope it's ok to post here and that I don't cause offence by doing so (I'll leave again straight away). Someone mentioned you were looking for a charity supporting people in both Israel and Palestine, and I thought you might want to consider the Red Cross (ICRC). They do neutral humanitarian work and are supporting people affected in both countries. Like many charities, they aren't perfect, but their neutrality means they could be an acceptable option for everyone.

I hope you find a suitable charity.

It's completely ok for you to post here and thank you for doing so. That said, I'd prefer not to donate to The Red Cross and would ideally like a charity specifically dedicated to this particular conflict/location who are working on the ground.

@HRTea I have replied to your thread on AMA.

Dh gives monthly to the red Cross (he isn't jewish). I can't help but feel so alienated from them because of their unforgivable actions during ww2 with regards to jews/Theresienstadt.

From the other thread, it looks like you found a suitable organisation to support!

I hope you didn't think my previous post was dismissive of your request in any way, by the way 🙈 I just didn't have the answer and thought she might! I've really enjoyed so many of her posts, she's so reasoned and articulate. We need to somehow convince her to run in the next Israeli election 😅

Thanks so much. I didn't think it was dismissive at all! Just means jumping into the vipers nest on some other threads (the immediate hostile response from one poster there says it all really)

Yeah, I saw that 😏 Your response was perfect though, you clearly are supportive of Palestinians or else you wouldn't have asked your question in the first place 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thank you @Scirocco You are very welcome to post here.

However , I have some doubts over the RC.

exposing the Red Cross

FIRST, WHAT IS THE RED CROSS? The Red Cross was founded in 1863 by Henry Dunant, a Swiss businessman horrified by what he witnessed in the Italian battlefield during the Battle of Volturno. By 1933, the Red Cross was the central humanitarian player i...

@milfmummy you are on a board called Jewish Mumsnetters.

As I said previously I don't know anything about where money sent to 'Muslim Charity' goes and if you know anything about the situation you will be aware that tragically Hamas are siphoning off funds from many sources that should be helping their desperate population so forgive me for trying to ensure I'm not inadvertently funding their despicable regime.

Equally as a Jewish person I would never expect any of my Muslim friends or colleagues to send money to something called 'Jewish Charity'.

I support long term peace and if you look at the organisations that have been suggested you'll see they are actively working to bring people together which to me is about a sustainable long term solution.

Saying that Israel 'doesn't need charity' is both ignorant and shows no understanding for what charities like Standing Together actually do.

Anyone who can only see things from one side is part of the problem. Thankfully there are lots of people who are invested in both sides.

I posted this a week ago which suggests to me that you specifically came looking at threads on the Jewish Mumsnetters board to tell Jewish people what we should be doing, thinking or feeling. I have already made my charitable donation and my colleagues at work were gracious enough to appreciate it. So thanks for your opinion but it's naive and ill informed so you won't mind if I ignore it.

Have you considered finding a more constructive hobby than spending your time spying on and goading Jewish mumsnetters?
