Tell me Jewish MNers - who gets your vote on 4th July?

Labour for me. I feel like I’m taking a HUGE risk as a Jewish woman voting for a party other such a recent and fervent history of antisemitism but things can’t stay the same under the Tories and Sunak cares for us as little as Corbyn did.

Im wondering what the Jewish party line (excuse the pun) is - some Jewish family members refuse to vote Labour

I'm a floating voter ..I don't feel any particular allegiance. I live in a very safe labour seat so don't feel like my vote will count much anyway! I do not want another four years of a conservative government though. I do actually like Keir Starmer. He comes across as genuine and sensible. Not the most charismatic but I think we've had enough of that to be honest!

Yes I like that he has no airs and graces. His wife and children are Jewish and I first felt electing him leader was a move to detract from antisemitism but I do feel like he actually cares and isn’t paying lip service. Unlike Corbyn who was blatantly antisemitic and was totally unapologetic about it

I don’t know and because of our voting system, I don’t really feel like my vote truly counts. I may vote Labour, but I do have misgivings about it.

Dilbertian · 27/05/2024 21:10

Starmer seems to have no convictions and no opinions of his own. I have lost all respect for him.

I have no idea who I can vote for. I'm in a trueblue constituency, anyway, so doubt my vote would make any difference.

79Helene · 27/05/2024 21:37

We're moving up to Islington North just so we can vote for some independent candidate we've been hearing really good things about. Check him out if you get the chance! Apparently he's for the many not the....oh hold on.

Voting Labour, and I don't think Starmer's paying lip service either. He's shovelled the worst of the shit out. I'd prefer to see a bit more economic boldness from him but ultimately I want a party that cares about the survival of the NHS otherwise as a dual national I'll be moving elsewhere for better healthcare in the future. Although sadly to a country where antisemitism is probably worse than here, but hey the weather and food's nicer, so swings and roundabouts!

Anyway, Starmer's not antisemitic and I think British Jews have a very rocky road ahead, so it feels like a big priority😥

cholent99 · 28/05/2024 11:18

I'll probably spoil my vote. Can't stand the Tories, would rather stab myself in the eye than vote Green or Lib Dem, wouldn't vote Labour if you paid me and I think Starmer is awful - moulds himself on Blair (without the charisma but just as crap for the country), is a weak-minded globalist who will sell out the people of the UK (and Jews too) in a heartbeat.

CloudyAgain · 28/05/2024 13:56

I don't know. I do not think anti semitism has been stamped out in the Labour party and I don't have any faith that Starmer will be leader for long.

Tibbq · 28/05/2024 14:36

Tempted to spoil or vote for one of the local independent/small parties, which is basically a pointless vote. I’m still not happy giving my vote to labour. Feel very politically lost.

MovingBird123 · 28/05/2024 17:51

Still can't bring myself to vote labour. Would have loved to vote lib dem, but turns out our candidate thought that in 2014 concern for Palestinians was THE most important local issue... She's very popular here (and rightly so, other than that weird blip, she's excellent locally), so may need to vote conservative to ensure it's not her... Bummer

WhoToVoteForHmmm · 28/05/2024 18:05

I've name-changed for this as it's otherwise very outing, but my options are basically Oliver Dowden or a guy who used to be on Gogglebox. He was an idiot on there but at least he isn't Dowden, so I guess he gets my vote!

ChallahPlaiter · 29/05/2024 13:58

Labour. I’m so sick of the Tories pretending they champion Jews or that the right is in any way opposed to antisemitism. I live in a constituency where a donkey in a red rosette would win anyway but I’m not going to be allied with the right because they pretend they’re on our side while also acting as prototype fascists.

Disturbedby · 01/06/2024 21:06

I genuinely don't know who to vote for - for two reasons: none of the parties align sufficiently with my beliefs on issues important to me (antisemitism, women's rights, economic growth, school fees) and even if they did, the UK's political class is as skilled as a chocolate teapot in actually getting the job done, ie. not very. It's very important to me that I vote but I'm seriously considering spoiling my paper in disgust at the lot of them.

stomachamelon · 02/06/2024 21:45

@Disturbedby I echo those sentiments.

What a strange response. I am Jewish but have a different opinion to yours (shock!). Do you think I should ask my Rabbi to tell me who I need to vote for?

Oh well, good luck finding a Reform candidate that isn't a Hitler or Putin fanboy.

WhoToVoteForHmmm · 18/06/2024 18:50

I laughed yesterday as my local reform candidate posted a leaflet through my door. I live in a very Jewish area so out of the four promises he made, one was "to stop the anti-Semitic protests - Racism is unacceptable and Jews MUST be safe to walk our streets".

Pretty sure he's the only reform candidate with that on his leaflet 😂

My enemy's enemy is not my friend, so I will not be voting Reform.

Not sure what your childish eye rolling is for. Did you name change for your 'edgy' posts?

Reform have got you stitched up like a kipper. They hate you, me and every other Jew on this board. It's just they happen to despise Muslims a tiny bit more. If you want to be their useful idiot then more fool you. Reform are a racist party and any UK Jew voting for them should be ashamed - immigration routes in the not-too-distant past most likely saved your family, and many other people on this board.

We investigated Mick Greenhough in Orpington, Greenhough had said “The only solution is to remove the Muslims from our territory”, that the “problem is the Askenazi Jews who have caused the world massive misery”

Steve Laws, an advocate of the Great Replacement conspiracy, is running for MP in Dover & Deal with the English Democrats. His extreme anti-immigration stance and ties to neo-Nazi groups are deeply concerning.

Reform candidate, Jack Aaron thinks Hitler was “brilliant” and that President Putin’s invasion of Ukraine was “legitimate”.

Wow. I'll vote for whoever I like but thanks for the lecture and the predictable passive aggressive insults, that's definitely going to convince me that you are right 🙄.

I could also post a few links to some rather unsavoury Labour/Green/Conservative MPs if you like but I'm sure there would be some reason why they don't count.

79Helene · 19/06/2024 17:33

The mind truly does boggle.

gingergran · 20/06/2024 20:26

@WhoToVoteForHmmm same issue for me. I went to a hustings with the gogglebox guy and thought he stood his ground well with a pretty hostile audience. If he were to win though the conservative party would be wiped out as its one of the safest seats in the country.

Ahh we must be neighbours :)

Yes, I don't think Josh Tapper has much of a chance. Still good to see him giving it a go though!

knitnerd90 · 24/06/2024 04:23

Labour. I vote in Finchley & Golders Green and quite like Sarah Sackman from what I have read (I am voting from overseas by post). I am not hugely impressed by Starmer but the Tories have got to go. Voted for Luciana Berger in 2019.
