Comedy/TV shows and the Jewish sense of humour

Lighthearted fun thread

My dd has recently introduced me to Friday night dinner! Can't believe I have never watched it before. It's absolutely brilliant. My favourite character is Jackie's mum Nellie, as she reminds me so much of my own grandmother, even the way she calls everyone 'dolly'! Absolutely love her. So much resonates with me...it's absolutely genius. I also used to absolutely love Dorien in birds of a feather... another fantastic character that left my crying with laughter.

I just really love the Jewish sense of humour...often self deprecating, clever, witty. The older relatives I had excelled in it 😀

Anyone else a fan or have any similar type shows to recommend?

It's fab. It's not overly jewish however as a jew I recognise a lot of jewishness on it. It's very jewish when either Jerry's or George's parents are in it. It really is a fabulously funny show. I've an idea it might now be on netflix. The earlier seasons are by far the best imo.

The Marvellous Mrs Maisel is enjoyable to watch for so many reasons. The Jewish humour, the 50s and 60s sets. The fashions. The feminism. The screenplay is more like a stage play than a series because the writing can be so intricate but I really recommend it.

Sorry for bringing back to life an old thread, but has anyone else seen Nobody Wants This? Absolutely hilarious and just so lovely!

You should! It's a rom-com but a really lovely and relatable one.

I love Nobody Wants This. I really hope they carry on producing this series. Seinfeld and Friday night dinner are also firm favourites of mine. Seinfeld is a little dated now, but I can watch that show over and over, it really lifts my mood when I feel down.

Talking of dated shows, I used to love The Nanny 😍

Comedycook · 18/10/2024 10:51

Never heard of the nanny....just googled it. Looks like my kind of show!

Just saw this and wanted to add that I really loved this show. It was one of the best things I've watched in ages and a really nice lighthearted lift.

I'm glad you loved it too! I can't wait for season 2, although suspect I'll be waiting quite a while.
