£2000 to invest for DS1...where??

Haven't a clue as not a 'saver' unfortunately. However been given lump sum from a matured policy my father had for my eldest. Now want to re-invest for at least 5 years..probably 10. Where is best? For maximum interest?

It is hard to say really... Our kids savings are all in Premium bonds,but the interest is very low. We are thinking of selling them and buying some shares.
