House sale proceeds - where to hold it?

We're going to have a good lump sum sitting in our bank account for a few months between selling our house and buying a new one (provided we don't find the ideal house immediately, which I don't think we will)
Where's the best place to keep the money to ensure it is working hard but will be easily accessible when we need it?

NSI savings account isn't the best performing but is not limited by the 120k investor protection limit.

House sale proceeds have a higher limit than £120k, think it’s over a million, for 6 months.

I’m in a similar position, splitting it between Saga Savings (as I’m over 50), a Chase account, £20k in cash ISA an £50k in premium bonds.

You’ll get the temporary high balance protection for this, as @GoldTie said.

Are either or both of you higher or additional rate tax payers? That will affect the tax you’ll pay on savings interest, and so could be a factor.

When this happened to us, we spread it all over the place. Trying to get the best rates, keep it accessible, and not pay more tax than was necessary. So it was a mixture of high rate savings accounts, ISAs, and premium bonds.
