Looking to move house to Oxford

Any advice gratefully received from this great forum please! I'm hoping to move to Oxford in the next year or so. I'm thinking of buying in the Headington area as just cannot afford North Oxford, and Botley, Cowley and Rosehill areas really don't appeal. (Unless someone can convince me otherwise?!)

I've seen a perfect looking house in Headington, in the Sandhills. area. Does anyone know what this area is like? Specifically, crime rates, ease of getting to local amenities, getting the bus into the town centre, recreational things like sports centre, restaurants, post office, chemist, GP surgery etc etc?

Thank you so much in advance for any construtive advice, as currently feeling a bit clueless!

You need to post this in Property and DIY

Sandhills is not really Headington - it's closer to Barton and that's an area you would want to avoid. It is outside the ring road so quite a long journey into the city centre, although easy access to Thornhill Park and Ride so quite straightforward.

Headington is quite variable. It's good for access to the hospitals so is popular with medics but has some lovely areas (e.g. around Sandfield Road) and worse (e.g. around Westlands Drive).

There are very few amenities in Sandhills; Risinghurst, the other side of the road, is a bit better in that it has a newsagents and corner shop.
