Hycosy questions

Has anyone had a hycosy test done? I’ve seen on TikTok that ALOT of people have said it was terrible and very painful. If I haven’t conceived this month I’ll be having it done the 8th sep 😔 it’s looking likely I will be having it done. Ttc for over 4yrs lost my son last year after 3yrs of TTC.
I’ve had enough and I really didn’t want to get to this point and I know I’m very lucky to have fertility clinic to be looking into things but I just feel so defeated. I just want my body to do what it’s supposed to do.

@strawberry780 I had an HSG which is similar I think and it was fine. I was really worried after reading reports of how painful it was but I found it similar to a smear test. I think I popped a couple of paracetamol a wee while before.

So sorry for your difficult journey and for the loss of you son. I had one and it was absolutely fine - a little uncomfortable but not at all painful. I was terrified as everyone, including my Dr, told me how painful it would be. The only thing I wasn’t prepared for was how medical it was in terms of changing into a gown and hairnet, loads of people in the room etc. I was expecting something more like a smear where you just take your trousers off and they crack on 😂 so that made me a bit nervous but just because it was t expected if that makes sense. My pain threshold must be very low, because i was in so much plain to the point I thought I was going to pass out and had to say to the gyno I can't take it anymore, to which she responded "its nearly over" 🥲

Definitely take everything prior, pain killers and ibuprofen

I'm so sorry for your loss. I read lots of stories prior to mine so was apprehensive. Mine was via NHS, I had very intense cramping / felt sick / faint however it did die down and the rest of the procedure was bearable. They look at your uterus and ovaries as well as tubes. They shared the results at the time. A hot water bottle helped after the procedure as was sore for the day. I took my husband with me for support and a hand hold and glad I did but the staff are lovely and will make sure you're as comfortable as can be. I had one a few years ago and it was absolutely fine. Didn't even notice they were doing anything so I'm hoping that's the same for you😊 perhaps ask about what pain killers to take beforehand if you're worried about how painful it will be?

Thank you ❤️ yes they told me to take painkillers before hand but I’m worried a paracetamol and ibroprofen will not touch it 🤣🙈

This is a hard journey ❤️. For me, my hycosy felt like a less painful smear. I didn’t need to take painkillers after just slight discomfort but know it can be different for folks. Think it’s worth doing though x

Hi OP, firstly so sorry for your loss. 💐

I’ve had 2 HyCoSy’s and an HSG. The HSG was uncomfortable but I was ok. The first HyCoSy was a bit uncomfortable generally and the 10 seconds after they put the liquid in everything cramped and felt awful, then it was ok. Third HyCoSy I had last month, totally fine. I’d really hyped myself up for it and it was an anti climax. So even the same person can have different experiences! Take the pain killers and just focus on your breathing to help relax everything down there. Good luck!

I think it’s one of those things that really differ for each person. I read so many horror stories before mine and I was so nervous. I took naproxen and a nexium before mine to try and get the maximum about of painkiller.

Inserting the cather stings slightly, only for a couple of seconds and then it’s in. For the first side I didn’t feel anything at all. The second side I immediately felt it, a weird strong pain. It felt like an intense pressure. They said it was a spasm from the dye. They tried some more and it hurt more but completely doable pain just the sort that makes you shut your eyes and wince. They then stopped and removed everything, made me cough so I didn’t even feel the catheter come out. I felt a bit tender after, like my insides were inflated, just a bloating pain.

I would 100% have one again if needed. I think it’s the unknown that’s the scary part. You’re there for a while but the worst bit lasts only a few seconds. Just remember you are in control and can ask them to stop at any point or even pause if you need a breather. Good luck
