Considering IVF abroad and unsure where to start with clinics

My partner and I are getting to the point where we are thinking about IVF. We won't qualify for NHS treatment.

IVF in the UK seems ridiculously expensive so we are looking into options abroad - we've not entirely ruled out the UK but definitely swaying towards an overseas clinic. There is so much out there so I don't really know where to begin. I've looked at some clinics online and have briefly spoken to a few, but there is so much choice. We've not even narrowed it down to a specific country yet.

How do we begin? Has anyone got any recommendations of clinics to use or clinics to avoid? The clinics I've spoken to all say it's easier, monitoring can be done from here, but is it as straightforward as that?

Hi, I recommend reading the article 7 Questions to Ask a Clinic* *on the egg donation friends site.
In short, there are a few important questions to ask a clinic:

  • What are their success rates for someone in your specific situation and age group? Don’t rely on general success rates. Also ask what they mean by “success” — cumulative pregnancy rate, clinical pregnancy, or live birth rate.
  • How many cycles might you need, and what is the estimated total cost? This can give you a much more realistic idea of what treatment may cost.
A patient-oriented clinic should be willing to give you more specific information about your individual circumstances rather than just quoting general statistics. The fertility clinics abroad website also has an IVF abroad price calculator and, I if I am not wrong, a comparison tool, which can help you estimate how much treatment might cost in different countries. This could help you narrow down the shortlist. You can also look at IVF clinic reviews on the YT channel Behind IVF Clinic Doors. I like their detailed reviews and the information they provide about individual clinics. Unfortunately, researching clinics does take some time, but it can really help you find one that is the right fit for you.Hope this helps, and good luck!
