CRL 2.4mm at 6 weeks

Hi there,

My last period was 3rd July and I had a 5 day blastocyst transfer on 23rd July and tested positive from 5dpt.

Pregnancy tests been darkening and Beta’s good also.

I think I am 6 weeks 1 day. Today I had an early scan and my gestational sac is 15.mm but the CRL is only 2.4mm. Baby did have a heart rate of 106bpm.

I am worried the CRL is too small as I shouldn’t really measure behind with an IVF pregnancy?

Hi! Your transfer was on the same day as me. Today is 6 weeks exactly for IVF dates. The implantation time can differ a couple of days from person to person, which can affect the measurements as they grow so rapidly at this stage. Also the measurements are so tiny, they can be inaccurate too. The fact there was a heartbeat, especially at the expected value, is very reassuring! Do you have another scan booked in, or were they happy with what they saw? xx

Thank you so much, that is so reassuring to hear. I paid privately for this one, so have my actual ivf scan on the 24th August.

How are you getting on? Xx

You're very welcome. That's when my clinic scan is too! Early pregnancy is such a worrying time. I think everything is ok for me, but it's been a bit rough. I woke up to a lot of blood on Sunday so I went to the EPAU and had a scan at 5+1. The measurements were as they'd expect for then, with possibly a yolk sac being able to be made out, but they couldn't say for certain. They tested HCG and I had that repeated on Tuesday which showed it was doubling. I'm back to the EPAU on Monday for a repeat scan so they can check everything is going ok. Hopefully a week on they'll be able to see much more! I've started feeling sick the past couple of days, so I think my HCG must still be going up well 🤞 It's not long now until your clinic scan, and then they should date you based on what they measure. I found in my last pregnancy the NHS system just ignored the clinics dates though, and the 12 week scan dating completely took over for the due date etc later anyway xx

I’m so sorry to hear you had that bleeding, that honestly must have been so terrifying. Glad EPU have done lots of checks and everything so far is checking out normal. And you have the classic symptoms which is reassuring. Please do let me know how your scan on Monday goes. I’ve never been pregnant before and I’m so impressed by how amazing EPU you are.

We are twins for everything wonder, exciting we also have our ivf scans on the same day. Literally until today I thought I was 6+1, I didn’t realise it was a day behind with ivf.

Interesting to know a lot can change regarding the dates once you get to the 12 week scan xx

Of course, I will do! And please do keep me posted on how you are getting on. It's lovely to share the same dates with someone. Especially as I suspect from your username we were both born in 1991 😄

For an embryo transfer the dating is based off the embryo age (so day 5 for us) and then the date of the transfer, rather than your period date. Don't be alarmed if others outside the IVF clinic don't always grasp that. I've found I've had to explain the dates to them sometimes as they tend to default to period dates, which doesn't work the same for IVF because your period timing could differ quite a bit, say if someone needed more time on the medication before the transfer xx

Haha so not only transfer twins but also born in the same year! How strange!
Ahhhh ok dates make sense, yeah even EPU or some private places don’t seem to get that!
Thank you for explaining xx

Hi Op, just to say that at 6+1 everything is so so borderline and tiny, the measurements are all over the place.

I had a MMC following a 5DT a couple of years ago and must have had 5 scans between 5+5 and 8+5 weeks and I spiralled down every hole imaginable. It became obvious very quickly that something wasn’t right, every measurement was off. It was so much more than just a mm off on CRL. For example, no heartbeat at 6+4 and then slow heartbeat at 7+2 and growth consistently 1 week behind the average, a very large yolk sac etc.

My later successful 5DT had slightly small CRL measurements in the early days and we ended up having a 50th percentile baby who is a happy and healthy toddler now.

Hi! Just to keep you updated, everything went well at my scan earlier today and there was a heartbeat! Definitely needed that reassurance after quite a lot of spotting last night. All the best for your scan in a week xx

Thank you so much for taking time to reply!

Im so sorry to hear about your miscarriage, our senses often tell us when things are wrong don’t they.

So glad to hear your small CRL baby ended up healthy and happy!

This gives me hope xx
