Hysteroscopy - worth the wait?

I’ve had 4 failed IVF transfers and ahead of using our final two embryos, the consultant wants me to have a hysteroscopy to remove a growing fibroid that may now be intruding on the uterus (thus making implantation failure or miscarriage much more likely).

I’m on the NHS waiting list for the procedure and have been for 4 months, advice is that it’s probably another 10 months. We have half a mind to come off the list and just go for the embryo transfers anyway. We have two lovely children (that my wife carried) and have run out of money and emotional capacity for IVF. Every decision, every test, sends you a bit more insane. We just want done with it. But using those last two embryos and them failing because I hadn’t waited 10 months more for the hysteroscopy makes me feel like I’d be gutted with regret.

Questions - does anyone know if they have to allow a general anaesthetic for hysteroscopy? I don’t feel I could do it without, but recognise I might not be offered it as standard.

And, does anyone have experience on submucosal fibroids (which is the sort that push into your womb) to share?

Would you wait in our position or just have a last shot and pray for the best? Appreciate we’re in a very fortunate position to have our two kids so apologies if this comes across as insensitive.

I completely understand the fatigue that comes with this whole process and I'm sorry to hear about the failed transfers. I would wait so you can say you gave them the best possible chance, since your consultant mentioned it, but I understand just wanting to crack on with things or even end the chapter one way or another. Have you told your GP you want general anaesthetic? I've seen a couple of times on here that the waitlist was shorter if under GA (no idea why but I remember it because I was confused at the time because it made no sense to me, I'm also on a hysteroscopy waitlist but scared of GA 🤣)
