ICSI Vs IVF for over 40, no MFI

Hi all, just wanted some advice. We have had two failed ivf attempts, one last October when we had 9 eggs, 4 fertilised, 2 made to 5-day blasts and both transferred. None implanted. Second attempt in March, wonderful follicles shown on scan, but just three eggs retrieved (which the embryologist mentioned didn’t have the zona, so weren’t really eggs or something along those lines), so failed to fertilise.

the consultant had advised going for ICSI for next round. Anyone has any experience with trying IVF first and failed and went for ICSI instead?

I think you are confusing the terminlogy. ICSI is just an add-on, a different method of fertilisation where they inject the best selected sperm into the egg instead of putting drops of sperm on top of egg and hoping it fertilises, so to say. The process of IVF is still the same as without ICSI. We did ICSI from start, as the doctor said it gave use better chance of fertilisation, mainly due to my age I think.

We didn't have a problem with zona though, but I know that Kings Fertility in London has had an experience with fertiising eggs with no zona. Perhaps call them up for advice?
