Hi! I’m just wanting to know what was the wait times for everyone who is on the waitlist for IVF at Edinburgh? Would be a bonus if I could get an idea of sperm donor wait times here if possible as well!

Hi @chingachush . Is it NHS or self funded? I was self funded so think it was quicker than if you have NHS funding.

Edinburgh don’t do self funded anymore unfortunately! So NHS but I’ve been on waitlist now for a long period of time. We were going to be going private but I’m number 19 on the waitlist for SD so wanted an idea of how long that would roughly be now!

Really? I did self funded just two months ago! Maybe different with SD.

Hopefully #19 isn't too far away🙏Won't they not give you a rough idea of how many weeks that is?

Did you do self funded at the Simpson centre at royal infirmary? I literally asked them to do it privately and they said they don’t do it private anymore so was going to with GCRM!

no they can’t give me any idea they said that a couple of months ago it would be 12-18 months and that was when I was on the list at 37 and then when I called and it had dipped that low I was like oh so does that mean it’ll be soon and they said they don’t think it’ll be this year but I’m like if we’re going with that time frame then surely it’ll be soon?!

Yes, self funded at the ERI Simpsons place! Maybe try to ask again to double check? I'm pretty sure they wouldn't stop the income they get from self-funded!

I went on the waiting list in June last year. Then was having pre-treatment consultations in December and started in Feb. I'd called GCRM in about August and the waiting list time worked out about the same with the two months I'd already been waiting.

I think it is longer with NHS waiting list. Someone asked on here a few months ago - maybe you will be able to find the post and check how they are going on the list.

I’ll literally be on the phone to them first thing tomorrow! I’ll be so annoyed because I asked about it in July last year and got told no! So we had some other tests needing done and they came back in January so I asked again in January and got told they didn’t do it either so if I phone tomorrow and they say yes I’ll be mad that we’ve waited that long because I said that they used to do it and they said they had stopped so that’s why we were going to end up going with GCRM! 😂 I’m actually so mad right now at that. I spoke to them today about going private and they never even said oh why not come here or anything? 🤦🏼‍♀️ we’ll see tomorrow!

I can start with GCRM in July - I have an appt with them on Thursday but when I phoned ERI today and they said where I was on the list I was like fantastic so now I’m like I don’t want to pay out of pocket 15K for private if there is a chance that ERI is going to be quicker for the NHS funded because they said if I done GCRM and had embryos then I could transfer them to EFI but that would count as a round or I would have to use all embryos I had before I could go to the NHS funded round so in my head I’m like well how quick is that going to end up being? I don’t want to spend all that money now just in case they pull me up quicker than had been anticipated but they can’t give me a definitive answer on when that would be.

This whole thing is a mind field and my head is minced 😂

@chingachush Maybe it has something to do with the sperm donor part then?!

Good qu to ask - if you do end up going with GCRM, and it doesn't work, are you still entitled to an NHS round?

chingachush · 11/05/2026 21:56

I wouldn’t imagine so though! I can’t imagine the sperm donor being an issue if we are paying privately because I know the Glasgow hospital do that where you can go private and use sperm donor. I’ll check tomorrow!

I’d still be entitled to my NHS rounds so wouldn’t be missing them - I would just need to make sure any embryos would be used up before the NHS round.
