Hey, we’ve just had a consultation with London Women’s Clinic and we are considering 3 cycles of IUI. Has anyone had IUI before? Can you share your experiences??

Same sex couple. I did 4 rounds of medicated IUI in my early 30s as no identified fertility issues / just needed donor sperm. Unfortunately no success, so we progressed on to IVF. If IUI works its significantly less demanding on your body and cheaper in some ways, but depending on your situation if you're using donor sperm the donor sperm gets expensive very quickly using a vial per IUI attempt. Its worth being prepared for what you'll do if it doesn't work. Best of luck whatever you choose

Oh thank you for sharing and for letting me know. I’m sorry to hear it wasn’t successful. I think that’s what I am worried about and wondering whether ivf is just more effective. I’m not using donor sperm though. I have PCOS so that’s the reason for IUI. No sperm issues in my husband.

Have you tried clomid? I’m not sure how much more successful IUI would be than taking clomid and trying naturally?

Hi! I also have PCOS, no periods at all, nothing.
Had a laparoscopy and discovered endometriosis aswell. Tried 5 rounds of letrozole on a high dose and still didn’t manage to ovulate.

We went for IVF via NHS and our consultant suggested trying an IUI first. The idea being we would use the same stims as we would in IVF and the same trigger shot and it would help her gauge how well my body would respond. Then my first free round of IVF was based on some idea of how I’d react.

Amazingly I had 2 lovely follicles that ovulated and it worked first time! I couldn’t believe it.

I read so many negative stories about IUI but obviously so grateful I gave it a shot!

good luck to you!!
