IVF after two rounds

Hello
Myself and my partner have been trying for for 5 years now.

We had our first NHS IVF in September last year which was unsuccessful. We had 13 eggs retrieved, 12 were mature. Only 1 made it to blastocyst, meaning we had none frozen. At the time was upsetting as it did not implant. We were told we did everything correct.

Fast forward to now, round 2 on the NHS. I have just had my second egg retrieval. This was yesterday. I had a phone call this morning to say of the 15 eggs retrieved, only 8 were mature. 3-4 have made it through the night. I am also at risk of OHSS and in some pain at the moment.

It is hard to believe that we will have any to implant this round after hearing the numbers drop dramatically each day they ring. We now have the decision to make to go private or fund ourselves through the NHS. What are other people's experiences? I know people will think there is still a chance having potentially 4 but I just can't see it working when last time it halved each phone call.

I have a review tomorrow with the nurses to make sure I don't have any OHSS symptoms, I am going to ask how it can drop dramatically as I did nothing wrong. Did the trigger at the exact time and followed all the instructions.

It is demoralising and upsetting.

What should we do next, NHS funded or private? What is your experience? If you have done it in Sheffield even better!

Thanks in advance.

So sorry your rounds haven't gone as well as you hoped. Can they give you more information about when the drop off occurred in your first round, was it after day 3 or before, as that can indicate different things e.g. sperm quality. Has your partner had a good sperm test and dna frag test?

And for your 2nd round, was it the same trigger as before, as it might be something there could have been better..

If you're eligible for more NHS treatment, I'd push for more info about where things dropped off/options for the future before going ahead with another round- have a look at emma the Embryologist who details what to ask and how to get the most out of Ivf

I did IVF privately only, and found the clinic very thorough and willing to fo more tests/change meds, of course I was paying for it all so that works for them haha but I do think it was more tailored and they do have options the NHS may not provide.

It's all a minefield and a really rough process, sending you love and solidarity

Each round of ivf is different, what happens the first time might not happen the second time. When we started trying again to expand our family, our first round last year we had 0 fertilisation but our second round we got 2 embryos. Unfortunately they didnt work for us but we are going to start our 3rd round and we are hoping we have some embryos to transfer.
