3 fertilised eggs IVF

I had my egg collection a couple of days ago where they retrieved 9 eggs. Out of them only three fertilised. I will now only get an update on day 5 and will have a fresh embryo transfer if we have a successful embryo. Throughout the journey the numbers have just been much lower than expected. I don’t really know how to feel about this. Social media shows women with much higher numbers so making me feel not hopeful :(. Has anybody had any success stories with only three or less fertilised eggs? In need of some hope ✨

People have had success with three (or one). Step away from the influencers!

I had 5 eggs collected and we only ended up with 1 embryo. They did a 3dt and it resulted in our now 19 month old daughter.

I had 9 retrieved, 8 mature and 7 fertilised, but only 1 made it to blastocyst stage and now PGT-A testing. I am 42 and we just did a cycle in Spain... Attrition rates are brutal - sending you my thoughts...

That’s amazing! Thank you for sharing 🫶

Two eggs; one embryo….he”s 11 next week. It can happen. Good luck!

confused2025 · 11/01/2026 04:45

@Riya619 12 eggs, 4 fertilised and ended with 2 embryos. Currently 35 weeks with the first transfer. You are still in. Sending you all the luck for your day 5 x

My first cycle I had 8 eggs, 7 fertilised, 4 blasts, and none was euploid. Second cycle I only got 3 eggs, even though the clinic kept telling me things looked so much better - all three fertilised, all three got to blastocyst, and one was euploid; I'm 17 weeks.

The numbers are upsetting, but I was really comforted by the theory that some women naturally produce smaller numbers of 'good' eggs and others larger numbers that aren't so good - so it can all balance out in the end.

zirafica · 15/01/2026 12:28

i can vouch for the "high number of eggs not necessarily a good thing" - i had 26 harvested, 21 mature, 14 fertilised and all 14 made it to day 5 good grade blastos, we pgt-a tested 7/14 for financial reasons and only got 1 euploid out of the 7 (and 1 mosaic). The 1 euploid is now my 9w pregnancy, so it does only take one!

I felt the same when I was going through ivf and only 1 of my ovary was reacting to the stims. In the end I had 5 collected and 2 embryos. Currently 35 weeks pregnant, it only takes 1. Wishing you all the luck!

Oh, zirafica, I'm so pleased! I was wondering how you were getting on - I think last time we spoke you were either not pregnant or extremely early on. Congratulations!

zirafica · 17/01/2026 20:42

@SarahAndQuack thanks so much!! We transferred early December and I had the worst six weeks after with some really bad family issues, I thought of your post about your successful transfer in the worst period of your life many times! It really got me through in moments where I thought there’s no chance this embryo is going to make it through this absolute shitstorm, but here we are. Looking forward to the 12 week nhs scan just to have one more check if everything’s going as it should, but the 8 week scan at the clinic was textbook and the doctor was very reassuring so I’m allowing myself to start planning a little! How are you holding up?

SarahAndQuack · 17/01/2026 20:44

Oh, that is so lovely! I'm really glad.

I'm doing ok! I'm 18 weeks and I just need to get over the anomaly scan and I will relax a bit.

I hope things have calmed down a bit for you now! But I definitely think you and I prove that you really can do it successfully at a stressful time.

zirafica · 17/01/2026 22:07

Oh that’s so good @SarahAndQuack! There’s always the next scan isn’t there 😂😂 fingers crossed the 20 week one is perfect!
yeah I think I’ve just accepted it’s all just luck and actually very little you can do to influence how it goes, past the common sense stuff. The family stuff has partially calmed down but I think more than anything I’ve set some very firm boundaries, basically saying you all deal with this without me, I have much more important things to focus on than play peacemaker and psychologist to you. Honestly it’s given me such peace of mind… I think part of being pregnant is having very low tolerance for anything that causes me anxiety atm and protecting my own bubble.
when and if you want do let me know how it’s all going, would love to keep in touch :)

That is so true about low tolerance/self-protection! Absolutely finding that to be the case.

Are you on the pregnancy after IVF thread? If not, do come find it - I'm finding it absolutely invaluable having other people who 'get' how it is.

zirafica · 23/01/2026 13:18

@SarahAndQuack oh I haven’t seen that around! Would you mind tagging me in a post there? Thank you!

I understand the feeling! I am exactly the same. First round, 13 eggs, 12 mature, 1 to blastocyst and didn't take. Had my second retrieval yesterday, 15 eggs, only 8 mature, 3 have made it through the night. I have got to wait till Thursday now to see if any make it.
