Short v long protocol IVF/ICSI

Hi Ladies,

I am interested in hearing stories when switiching from Short to Long protocol? Ive done 4 round of ICSI now which has only ever resulted in 2 embryos each time and not very good quality, and one round with no blasts at all, on the last we did IVF/ICSI and had 2 blasts but very poor quality.

My clinic and I have had a conversation about trying long protocol, i was never recommended this before due to having PCOS, but my most recent IVF cycle showed my ovaries no longer have cysts ( i think this is down to inositol that i have been taking ) so my clinic would now allow me to do the long protocol. In this time, ive been at two different clinics, recently changed over for the last cycle.

Any advice/experience would be greatly received xx

I did the opposite - did a long protocol with only 2 eggs collected despite good AMH and in early 30s. We did a short protocol the second time around (with some other tweaks as well) and I've had 2 successful transfers.

Definitely worth trying something different to see how your body responds

I tried Long Protocol, 2 embryos, 1 transferred, BFN. We then switched to Short Protocol and I only had 1 embryo which fertilised but didnt survive 24 hours after collection. I am going back to Long Protocol this year with collection time moving from 36 hours to 38 hours, just trying to decide when to actually start as I finally feel good and dont want to fall into the abyss of one more failed IVF cycle.

Following with interest. I’ve done 6 cycles of short protocol. Unexplained infertility. Luckily always get a few eggs but either dont make it to blast/don’t test as euploid/ don’t implant or miscarry. Looking for something else to try in the hope of a better outcome

I had short cycle, no fertilisation. Then long cycle, same result.

Switched clinic onto a short cycle but with a month prepping (growth hormone, OVUM supplements, DHEA 25mg) and LOW stims. I have very low AMF so idea what quality over quantity. Managed 7 eggs, 5 survived ISCI. 4 fertilised and 3 made to blasts. One BFP, but MMC and two BFNs

Just started my 4th egg collection stims and doing exactly the same as cycle 3. 🤞🏻

For me the protocol was my worst one, only got 3 eggs and only 2 were mature.
