Letrozole disappointment

First round of letrozole 5mg day 2-6. Confirmed 3 follicles on CD11 (14mm, 17mm and 18mm) and positive ovulation test on CD14. We BD CD11,12,13 and 14 (couldnt CD15 as it was Christmas Day and we were just so busy). Unexplained infertility, all tests normal.

It’s 11DPO and stark white FRER, not even a squinter. I’m so sad I thought we were going to have a little Christmas miracle ☹️ I know letrozole isn’t a guarantee but I had so much hope.

At this point I feel like we should just go straight to IVF.

Hi @TigerLily04

Sorry you didn't get your Christmas miracle 😟

Are you planning to try another couple of rounds with letrozole?

TigerLily04 · 05/01/2026 21:35

Hiya @HM2024 thank you 😔
yeah I have another cycle left so will use that up. I know they recommend 3-6 cycles but when you’ve been TTC almost 2 years I just don’t know if I want to waste any more time 🤦🏻‍♀️

Hi OP, this sounds very similar to me. I had my second Letrozole cycle before Christmas - scan on day 12 showed i had three follicles, 1 x 12mm and 2 x 10mm, everything else looking good. I then got a positive ovulation test on day 16 which was 16th December, so did the BD, only to get negative tests over Christmas. Now entering our third round, but wondering if IVF would be the better option.

I have heard and been told that the more cycles you do, the better chance of success as your body is likely to respond better with each round. Holding on to that hope, hopefully it will happen for you too. Are you TTC your first? x

Hey @Janey3090
its so disappointing isn’t it. I know letrozole isn’t a miracle worker but when there’s nothing “wrong” that they can find and your ovulating you just think why the hell isn’t it happening!
Do you usually ovulate on your own?

I had a HYCOSY done in September by a fertility consultant and we spoke about letrozole and he basically told me not to bother with it. If you ovulate naturally anyway letrozole won’t actually increase chances of conception but after the HYCOSY I had 2 very long odd cycles so I asked my clinic if I could have it to get me back into a routine.

Yeah this is our first. I got pregnant in July 2024 but it was ectopic and miscarried naturally. Haven’t had a single positive since. X
