IVF Representation in the Media

Hello!

please delete if not allowed

My name is Emma. I’m a northerner, a teacher, and most importantly an IVF mummy, who has (somehow!) found my way into screenwriting. I'm in the process of writing a UK TV drama series based on my own experience of IVF, and I’ve been really lucky to have it picked up by a production company.

I’m trying to understand whether people who’ve experienced or are on@ their own IVF journey feel there’s an audience for this kind of representation. I’m not asking for personal stories, just whether it’s something you’d watch or think needs to be made.

The survey is short and anonymous. Thank you so much for taking the time, and please take care of yourself while answering ❤️

I wouldn’t mind completing this but I’m not clear if I can do so anonymously as it keeps adding my email which I’d rather not share.

I think it would be good to have more representation, particularly around the fact that ivf doesn’t always work in the end. There’s part of me that thinks that could be a depressing watch but it’s the reality. Some people do have to find a way forward without a much wanted child and reimagine/ create a different future for themselves- think that could be interesting to explore too.

Done.

I've completed the survey. I appreciate it's your experience so this is just a general thought, but I'd love more representation of non-NHS IVF on TV. With around 3/4 of cycles being private in the UK, it bothers me that most TV representation in the UK invoices GP referrals and NHS cycles. It means the financial cost of IVF, which is a factor for the majority of couples in the UK undergoing IVF is completely ignored in media representation.
