Only 1 egg fertilised after egg retrieval

Hi. I had an egg retrieval done on Wednesday of this week and they managed to retrieve 7 eggs. I had a call from the clinic yesterday to say 6 of those eggs were immature and they only managed to fertilise 1 egg. I am absolutely devastated and finding it really stressful for the wait to see if my embryo reaches the blastocyst stage. I was just wondering if if anyone else haas been in the same situation and any successful stories to help relieve the stress a bit. Thank you

I had 5 eggs collected and only ended up with one fertilised. They did a 3 day transfer with that embryo and it was a successful pregnancy. I know it’s disheartening but we only needed that one.

Oh that’s great! It’s always lovely and reassuring to hear these stories. I think it’s the waiting to see if the embryo makes it that I’m finding really hard as well.

Yeah I get that. The whole process is nerve wracking. I didn’t relax until I got past 12 weeks. Even though stuff can stiff go wrong that’s the time I just eased into it. Up until then I felt like an imposter as weird as that sounds

Sounds like they triggered you for egg collection too early, I would question this for next time and ask for a longer stim cycle. I have had this before also, I had 7 eggs collected which is the most i have ever gotten and 5 of the eggs were too immature to fertilise and the 2 eggs that icsi were used on didnt fertilise and id say its because they wernt quite to size also. I spoke to the doctor and ask for a new protocol and told them I wasnt happy with that cycle and questioned everything. The following cycle I had 2 embryos out of 5 eggs. Unfortunately for me both of those didnt work but because I spoke up, more care was taken in the next round. I hope your embryo makes it for a transfer. People always say it only takes one. Hopefully that is true for you.
