IVF weight gain before egg retrieval

hi everyone ❤️

I had to lose weight before undergoing IVF which I did using a vlcd. I did it quite quickly and used Mounjaro.
Prior to starting the IVF, I was instructed to stop the Mounjaro. I then had to start hormones then stims plus steroids. My weight has shot up, I’ve gained 7kgs! I have responded very well to the stims so prepping for egg retrieval but not sure what will happen now!
I’ve tried not to do low calorie so did low carb high protein but still gained weight. I could cry because I have been miserable and hungry but still gained so much. Everything is swollen.
will they cancel me?

They can’t cancel you you’ve already started and are responding well! I’m sorry you’re feeling this added pressure, it feels so unfair on top of everything else. Have you spoken to the nurses about your worries?

I wish you the best of luck with your cycle :)

Hey how long did you have to stop mounjaro for before starting?
I agree i don’t think they can make you stop because of weight gain, are you private too?

They must know people gain weight when they stop weight-loss treatment; if they don't take it into account that's just silly. Do you happen to know where you are in terms of recommended weights?

I think it's like anything else: yes, ok, being overweight does have an impact on your chances (and therefore their success statistics, which is what they're bothered about). But so do so many other things. We can only do what we can do. You could be sitting around agonising about your age, or the fact you missed your folic acid the first month because no one told you take it before TTC, or you had a cocktail after work because you forgot, or whatever. And IVF intensifies all of those worries, because we all end up blaming ourselves.

Mostly, though, it's a case of 'it would be nice if I were 7kg lighter but ... well, this is where I am'.

Good luck!

Thankyou. I’ve been off mounjaro for about two months. So does seem a bit unfair that not only have I stopped the mounjaro but now I am on steroids and hormones that make me bloat, like everything working against me! Planned ER Monday so will see what happens :-/

Thankyou. I think I will broach this with them on Monday. Everything else (time etc) is against me so hopefully they will accept as I am. The hormones cause weight gain and I’ve had a good response so feels like a win and a punishment at the same time :-/

Oh, I didn't realise how close you were to egg collection! I bet you a big part of that weight gain is the bloating - honestly, I felt as if I was made of water. I was just under 9 stone when I started stims and I went up to 9 and 3/4 by egg collection day and that may well be proportionally more weight gain than you. They must see it all the time.

Hope you get a good reply from them, and good luck!

Weight gain on stims is extremely normal so dont feel bad or worried and your cycle will definitely not be cancelled because of it. I gained 5kg with stims, egg retrieval, 2ww on progesterone and then the time I was pregnant until my recent miscarriage. A lot of it is bloating, plus fat storage from the meds, lots of water weight and general food noise which is increased with the hormone injections. Try not to stress. Once you stop treatment and if you happen to get pregnant, some of the weight will come off and then the pregnancy hormones takes over. The best thing you can do is concentrate on drinking enough fluids and eating an all round variety diet while ttc and making sure your eating enough protien and calories to sustain a pregnancy but you definitely dont need to be over eating. To sustain a pregnancy all you need is 300 extra calories give or take. A little weight though is nothing to worry about as long as its not excessive ad this could be unhealthy.
