3BC blast, over 40…any success stories?

We have just got one blast from 2 cycles of IVF, it’s a 3BC which upon looking up suggests is poor quality. I’m 43, this is my 5th cycle to have a sibling. We were successful after 3 cycles a few years ago but had so many more eggs back then.
Just wanting to hear anyone’s experience of only having one blast that isn’t graded the best xx

Hi @MammaKG
Have you had a fresh transfer of this 3BC?

I'm afraid I don't have experience as I haven't done any transfers yet. But firstly grading is subjective and not an exact science and it's meant more for prioritising from the embryology lab and not a promise of success (or failure).

As I understand it the factors that most influence success rate is 1. maternal age 2. day of embryo development (was this a day 5 embryo) and then, 3. grading.

So while a 3BC might have less chance than a 4AB for example, it still has a chance and if it's been transferred then it's now in the best place for it.

The uncertainty is a killer so I hope you have something nice planned over the weekend to keep you occupied.

Hi, no I’ve not transferred it as we are doing another cycle in January, the aim was to bank embryos before transfer as I’m 43. The first cycle yielded 3 eggs which were frozen then this round 4 eggs. So out of those 7, 5 fertilised but only one made it to day 5.

We had another one at morula stage which they have come back to us today to say it didn’t progress, however the one they graded a 3BC was an error, it was a 3BB and then by the time they went to freeze it was a 4BB.

I think yesterday I was all over the place but having had a sleep I processed it and now having had that email today as well feel slightly better (even though the other one didn’t make it).

It’s a day 5 embryo as they wouldn’t freeze day 3 embryos, not sure whether that is normal practice
