How long was everyone on progesterone for?

Hi

just wondering until how many weeks did everyone stay on progesterone for ? I will be 8 weeks on Friday (hopefully if all is still ok) and have a scan next week and just wondering as the initial advice from my clinic was I would be on them until this scan, but I asked to stay longer and they said I could until 12 Weeks if I really want to as I have had quite a few losses so was anxious about coming off. Should I just come off next week all going well with the scan or stay on till 12 weeks?! I have had no previous record of bleeding in any of the other losses apart from when they eventually came away, my natural progesterone levels are ok , just on as a precaution, anyone else came off at 8 weeks and been ok? Thanks

My clinic prescribed until 12 weeks as standard, ive never made it that far sadly. But, it’s the same prescription every time.

Personally I'd stay on it to 12 weeks. I've not been on it yet, but my consultant wants me on it for my next pregnancy, definitely up to 12 weeks. Her thinking is there's no harm and it may help, so why not do it.

I’d stay on till 12 weeks if I were you. There’s no harm in being on it. Some people take it till 16 weeks (me), 20 weeks or even longer. If it helps give you peace of mind staying on it a little longer then go for it. They’ve said 12 weeks is fine and they wouldn’t agree to that if they thought it was an issue. And if anything changed with the pregnancy do you think you might be questioning if the progesterone had anything to do with it. Sending lots of luck for your scan ☺️

Thank you for all the replies, yes I guess it’s probably best @Strawberrryfields as you say if something were to happen I would be regretting not just staying on incase it was that. Thanks

I am sorry to hear so far things have not worked out for you .. keep going , this is our 7th transfer (from our 3rd round) had 6 miscarriages , so far so good but been here before and lost heartbeat at 10.5 weeks so I know it can all be taken away from us at anytime , I am just grateful for each day , one day at a time , best of luck for your journey 💛

I stayed on after a FET until 14 weeks, think that was my Dr being super cautious as other people at my clinic come off at 12, I know Tommy's say 16 based on a research study but I've heard after 12 weeks the placenta is taking over so it really won't do much after that!

Nosejug · 20/11/2025 13:19

12 weeks for me, and double checked with EPU today and they confirmed 12 weeks was a safe bet as placenta would be done by then.

happy last progesterone day @pastelheart !

I was using cyclogest pessaries twice a day until 14 weeks and then dropped down to once a day until 16 weeks. I was low risk and my progesterone levels were normal it was all just in case. Once I came off them the bloating came down really quickly but then baby bump started appearing 🤭 Bump is now a 6 month old little girl 🩷 Best of luck to all of you on your journeys!
